View Full Version : My seasonal depression is starting to kick in.

The days are getting shorter. It's getting cold outside. I'm starting to feel more and more anxious and uneasy with each passing day, particularly in the evenings. Granted, there's a lot of emotionally exhausting shit going on in my life right now, but I know that my overall well-being is influenced by the change of the seasons and it really sucks.

Right there with you, I get real blue this time of year too. Shit sandwich.

Here are some things that are nice about Fall/Winter:

1) You can bust out your hiking boots/black or brown sneakers
2) You can see your breath in the morning
3) Leaves smell nice
4) You can wear hoodies, flannels, and stocking caps and pretend you're Eddie Vedder

Hoodies and slippers are the only good things about winter.

I really enjoy fall, I just hate that the days are so damn short and it's pitch black outside by 5:00 once we roll the clocks back. (n)

Yeah that really really sucks ass, especially when you've got an ass-kicker of a commute like I do. It feels alot like Pink Floyd's "the Wall". Can't believe I referenced "the Wall". gay.

wrong, not when you have to scrape your car. I've almost lost my shit like that guy in Fargo any number of times. My guess is that it snows balls-deep in Minnesota too, you're in for a treat.

They're swell when you don't have to go anywhere.

However, when you have to scrape the ice off your windshield at the asscrack of dawn, that shit hasn't even had a chance to melt because it's still fucking dark outside, then you hop in your car and it's not warmed up until you pull into the parking lot at your bullshit job to work for 8 hours, and then when you leave your bullshit job, it feels like it's 9 pm and it's only 5, it really, really sucks.

fuckin' right. i used to hate that, that was by far my least favorite part of winter. scraping the ice off the car, shoveling the driveway, driving in the snow and ice, all the shit that revolves around having a car. i'm so glad i don't need it anymore. i don't miss driving at all.

winter in MN would probably be more tolerable if it did snow a lot, instead its small patches of crusty snow and subzero temperatures.

Do you have SAD? I do, and I definitely feel the onslaught of that shitty mood, though it's not too bad right now since it's still somewhat sunny out during the day. I used to have to use a light-box, but I developed a hate relationship with it when I was little since it was used to wake me up in the morning for school...so I dismantled it.

I'm going to have to start taking my meds again or I'm going to turn into a real asshole this season. :(

it used to snow a lot in the early seventies. one day we couldn't go to school because the snow covered the garage door!

my boyfriend 'has' seasonal affective disorder, and he used lightboxes for a while. one of those that you attach to the top of your computer monitor at work or tv at home. i think it worked a little, but he also grew to hate it because it was a constant reminder of having this need to be 'fixed' by this stupid fucking bright light. also, his office had no windows which sorta amplified the problem.

sorry for you, triple dee. try and make small changes/rewards for yourself to make your day a little sweeter. last week i made a little photo diary. this week imma try a new recipe. in the next couple of months i'm buying a wii. i go swimming. i dunno. i love winter, but i hate that it's going to be a new year soon and i've pretty much achieved absolutely zer0.

I like the winter because people feel sorry for my bus riding ass and give me unsolicited rides all the time

I'm so happy to be busting out my turtlenecks and hoodies and thick socks. I love sleeping in my warm bed too. I am sorry to put my sandals away though. And I'm going to miss sitting outside when I drink my coffee.

It's buttcrack of dawn by the way. Who says asscrack? Is that a regional thing?

The asscrack of dawn is slightly earlier than the buttcrack. The tamer the word is, the closer the situation is to being within reasonable limits. It's like how a buttload of money isn't as much as an assload, which is just shy of being a shitload.

If the seasons didn't change, I wouldn't be able to enjoy all the various seasonal teas I love.

Fall's sort of a bitch because of all the leaves I have to rake, but it's good for the apple cider. I like winter. I also like snow. It only snows maybe two weeks out of the year here, though. Spring is nice too. Around late April all the trees on our block turn into big pink clouds. Summer = bbq. I like the changing of seasons.

Me too. I get bored with too much of one thing and the change is nice. It livens things up. I like to start out the fall season by making a list of things that make me think of fall.
