i just got a google alert that said they would be doing a special performance at etnies' third annual Goofy vs. Regular contest which will be held october 20-22 at the etnies skatepark of Lake Forest, California

The Score is Tied One-to-One as etnies Presents the Third Annual GvR!

Last year, at the second annual etnies Goofy vs. Regular contest, the Goofies stomped Regs to regain their pride. Of course nobody will ever forget the first GvR when the left foot-forwards destroyed the Goofies in a jam session that many hailed as the most incredible ten minutes of collaborative skateboarding humans had ever witnessed. With the score tied one-to-one, ‘06 will be the year that determines which stance will reign supreme!

This October 20-22 at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest, California, GvR brings together the best professional skateboarders in the world aligned by stance, Goofy foot and Regular foot, in the end-all-be-all barometer of stance domination.

Sanctioned by the World Cup of Skateboarding, etnies GvR has invited more than 100 of the top professional skateboarders from around the world to compete for the $70,000 purse and supreme stance braggin’ rights. Invitees include 2005 GvR MVP’s Ronnie Creager (Goofy) and Chris Cole (Regular), Ryan Sheckler, Bastien Salabanzi, Andrew Reynolds, Nyjah Huston, Rodrigo TX, Colt Cannon, Jereme Rogers, Mark Appleyard and many more.

A highlight of the weekend will be a special performance by the Beastie Boys immediately following the contest at 8 p.m. on Saturday night. Stay tuned to the etnies GvR web site, gvr.etnies.com, to find out how to get free tickets.

Directions and Parking:

From San Diego and all points south, via Interstate 5:

Take the Lake Forest Dr. exit and go right, east (towards the mountains) for approximately 5.5 miles. Turn right on Rancho Parkway. Street parking is available on Rancho Parkway, Lake Forest Drive, Vista Terrace, Windrow and Hermana Streets. There will also be parking signs directing traffic to GvR parking lots. Please do not park in the Home Depot Shopping Center, as your car will be towed!

From Long Beach, Los Angeles, Anaheim, and all points north, via Interstates 5 or 405:

Take Bake Parkway exit from either the 5 or 405, and turn left, east (towards the mountains), approximately 5 miles. Turn right on Rancho Parkway and drive a quarter mile to Lake Forest Drive. Parking is available on Rancho Parkway, Lake Forest Drive, Vista Terrace, Windrow and Hermana Streets. There will also be parking signs directing traffic to GvR parking lots. Please do not park in the Home Depot Shopping Center, as your car will be towed!

From the 241 Toll Road:

Going south, exit Lake Forest Dr. Go left at the light and look for parking signs. Turn right on Town Center Drive, there will be parking on your left. Going north, exit Portola and go right at the light. Drive approximately one mile, then turn left at Town Centre Drive. Follow the road and watch for signs for the parking lot on your right.

Not that it's any of my damn business.

It's great that they're fans of the contest too, because it IS a cool contest. This year is the tie-breaker.

Re the understated nature: it's almost like they're going underground. Very cool.

On KROQ's site (http://www.kroq.com/) it looks and feels like the Q101 Secret Session they did back in Chicago. Which was a 3 song set for about 100 people.

So this could be the "second" performance in addition to the GvR show.

Pff... ok so I just listened to kroq and heard this bologna. Not only do you have to call like a mad crazy person over and over and not get through, BUT, if you're lucky enough to have them grace you with their presence on the phone, you have to play this "game". Basically some jerk says a title of a Beastie Boys song BACKWARDS and you have to guess which title he's saying. It's really fuckin difficult. No really. Eventually the 7th caller got it cause no one was getting it. So the dude obviously did a robot voice as he read intergalactic backwards. Painfully obvious at that point. Yeah, I hope some of these winners put their tix on ebay cuz damn yo. :(

There's gotta be a more civilized way to obtain tickets to what kroq calls this "secret" show in a "secret" location.
