View Full Version : how's university going? aka school sucks, and it's hard as shit.
how's school going for everyone? i'm beginning to think that taking a couple years off wasn't such a good idea....and then i remember how much fun i had.
i guess going from snowboarding/skating all day, to taking mechanical engineering, is not that easy a transition, considering i come to school by 9, don't leave till the other 9, and spend the rest of my time studying, reading, and doing endless assignments. too bad i'm so slack, and have terrible time co-ordinatiing skills.
other then ^that, school is deadly (lots, and lots of hot womens).
anyway, back to school stuff...

Taking the semester off, but still researching for my Honours paper. Gonna have a big leg up on my last year, with any luck.

what effect, if any, did cultural representation in zulu in 1964 have on cultural representation in zulu in 1965 and beyond?

shut up bob.
I'm not in school anymore, and everyone told me I'd miss it but you know what? I'm going to Canada in 10 days and I don't have to worry about any tests, projects, essays, or papers due! I've never had that freedom before and it feels really great.
I keep thinking about how I should go back and get my master's or get certification in my field, but then I think about how much money I spent, how much time I invested, and how hard I worked. I'm not ready for that for a looong while. If my work pays, I might go back though.

I've never hated Modern American Poetry more.

Commerce is a McDegree. It's kind of hard, and then I do some work and it's pretty straightforward. The real challenge was Business Statistics. Sometime in 2002, in a bed-sit in Brixton I proclaimed:
"Fuck Mathematics, man, I won't need no numbers!"
and let me tell you, those words didn't taste too good for a time there. Then I read something Documad posted about how she likes the way her brain feels when doing number stuff, and I kinda remembered that everytime I had done O.K with maths, it felt good. So I spent like 4 days straight practising for this mid-semester exam, and by the time I got there shit was feeling good. And I really enjoyed the test!
I felt like my brain was being engaged far more than when discussing stuff, and interpreting things.
mostly motivation yeah. i mean the stuff's hard, so i have to work at it pretty actively in order to understand it, i have to put in a lot of effort. and it's not that i CAN'T do that, it's that i'm not sure the rewards would be worth it. i work hard on assignments that i don't like so that i can graduate and become a lawyer and do that same work that i don't like for the rest of my life?
i think it's too early to tell for sure, but yeah, i'm losing steam. i don't particularly care about rule 12(b)(6)(2) of the federal rules of civil procedure, or prescriptive easements, or res ipsa loquitur, i'd rather read about what songs people are listening to.
i'm also kind of feeling like i don't want to take my work home with me too much when i get a career, i'd miss being able to relax. i think i'll drop out and wait tables or something
i dunno, we'll see. it's only been a month, i should give it more time.

The only thing that keeps me moving is the prospect of getting fuckfaced on the weekend.
Does this make me an alcaholic?

so they say, so they say
of course i don't necessarily HAVE to be a lawyer...i DO however, have to pay off a staggering debt if i stick it out for 3 years, so i have no idea what i'd do other than be a lawyer.

i'm tired of all the free work I have to do, to even get a foothold in the industry i'm studying...
next week i'm facing a two hour, twice a day commute in peak traffic, a forty hour work week with no pay, and petrol/parking for the week is gonna cost heaps...
this better be worth it.
man that sucks. ive had about 5 really good jobs, and ive fallen into every one of them. ive never even had an interview.

Not to be all noble and shit, but I get the feeling that law has chosen you, Robert. You just need to focus on the end of your degree, like a motorcyclist speeding towards a tree; if it's all you see it's where you'll be.

I toyed around with the idea of going to law school to be a lawyer because I love debating, and I'm very stubborn. But then my friend at Brooklyn Law told me NOT to go to law school unless I'm POSITIVE it's what I want to do. He said it wasn't like undergrad where you can kinda play around with what you want to do. It's hard work and if you're not dedicated to law school you won't do too well.
Try and stick it out for a while more, and see if it's *truly* what you want to do. If not, you're smart enough to get into grad school pretty easily.(y)

sorry queen, MD doesn't seem to have a state muffin. i can however, tell you that according to MD Code, State Government, § 13-314, square dancing is the state folk dance.
it may seem like this is wasting my time but i'm actually gaining valuable research experience. i had to fineagle my way to that result a little bit, searching's harder than it looks
