You know I haven't heard "cool beans" since high school.
I guess it's kinda like BA01 saying "Oh snapple" yesterday. Like, she was going to stop at 'snap' but felt like it needed that little something extra. But why beans? That IS pretty retarded.

I've also heard people use "beans" as a negative saying as well... of course, minus the cool. What the hell does that mean?
Like, for example, I'd say, "Hey, Diana! You know I got drunk and didn't call you, right?" to which she would reply, "Oh, BEANS!".
Or something like that.

I have a friend who says "cool beans" all the time. She's been doing it for at least 15 years. I should ask her why.
I picked up a lot of the things I say from friends or co-workers years ago so I can't even remember how or why. A do know that "don't get your undies in a bunch" came from a secretary I used to work with. Other people say it but she used it best.

ok, if you insist. i like the phrase cool beans, and have never stopped to question what it actually means. perhaps it's a reference to the kind of beans that jack bought from the market... the ones that turned into a giant beanstalk?

yeah ask her....and not to sound cocky but people usually pick up my phrases once we start kicking it. I dunno why but they do...cept calling people a "Douche" I got that from a married couple I used to hang with.

I say "high five" a lot, which I got here. And I also say "Awesomes!" in this nerdy lispy voice, because my friend and I used to do that voice all the time and that word still somehow stuck. I didn't realize I did it all the time until one of my OTHER friends told me that they kept saying it and realized it was from me.
I usually cycle through catch phrases, based on who I hang around and what TV shows I see. And when I haven't heard words for a while and realize I really love them. Like "fucktard" and "cuntstick." Then those get cycled back into my vocab. (y)

"Oh Snap" is merely an euphemism for "Oh shite" or "fookin' 'ell" or "Slap me bloody rubbish bollocks!" or whatever.
I don't dig when people say "Bob's your uncle". It's like, stfu man.

I believe the Aussies say it a lot. A guy I work with says it, though. I'm just like, yeah, true. I actually do have an uncle named Bob, so whatever. But if I didn't.....

Bob's your uncle, and your dad!
"Cool Beans" is a phrase that originated in American pop culture during the 1980s. It is used when referring to something with a positive connotation. For Example "That party was cool beans." Much like other slang words "Cool Beans" mostly faded out with the times, but can be heard occasionally by those who've attempted to bring it back.
When analyzed the phrase is ironic because cool and cold are usual given negative connotations. For example "frigid", "icy", and "frosty." However during the 1960s American pop culture changed the meaning behind hot and cold. Words like "chill" and "cool" became hip ways of giving a positive compliment. On the other hand "hot" and "smoking" took on the impersonal feeling of objectification . Much of the Women Rights success occurred in the 1970s and in response sexism was obvious in the 1980s. Words like "hot" and "bitchin" developed as demeaning attacks on women.
"Cool Beans" took on a different approach giving a playful tone to the contrast in words. The association of the noun "beans" with the adjective "cool" developed a duality making a phrase that was humorous and light-hearted. Unlike other slang phrases "Cool Beans" was not the result of television popularity, but rather just a twist on words developed by teenagers.
oh snap basically means "you got served!"
dude i say cool beans like ALL the time, seriously, for the past 4 years i'd say. i used to always say it when talking to people from here to make fun of 14 year old chatter kids, and then it just kinda stuck. i say cool beans a lot, and i don't know what it means or why i say it :(
