Just picked up the new "11th Hour" DVD about Del tha Funkee Homosapien and the making of his upcoming LP of the same name. Some footage near the beginning of the documentary finds Del reading through some rap periodical that mentions Q-Tip. He then exclaims (not quoted), "Oh Yeah, Q-Tip. He's my friend. He was the first cat I met in the rap bizness back during the whole native tongues era. The first time I did mushrooms was with Q-Tip, and we went to the Beastie Boys' studio. I thought there was a monster in the bathroom, so Mike D walked me over to the 7-11 and told me to buy some Fruit Loops." Short, I know. Miniscule, I know; but I though it was mentionable, anyway. Have a good one, y'all.

The live footage is pretty weak, in sound quality and performance, though the hardcore Del fans will appreciate the magnified documentary look into his thought process, personality, and music-making techniques and viewpoints. To be quite honest, though, the DVD kind of reveals that he's not quite as smart as he comes off on record. Not to downplay his skills or intelligence, he's still one of my personal favs, but I was expecting him to be some sort of wise, guru brainiac or something, but he's really just a goofball. So to answer your question; if you're a fan, it's worth the $11; if you're just kind of into a couple of his songs, you may not dig it quite so much.

WORD-- I caught Tribe's show out in the Bay Area and it was off the chain. I highly recomend that anybody check out the tour if they still can. not only is it a hot set, but all indicators point toward it being a farewell tour as well.
