I wanted to see MMM back in April, but I had free tickets to a baseball game and found out too late. My friend went and said he was awesome, and she was front row the entire time.

Have fun, kids. (y)

okokok

we got there early and got a really awesome spot and that was cool, and we had cool people around us. i was up the front and got some awesome photos. (later on the security guards stopped anyone from taking photos so i was lucky)
then lots of stupid drunk people thought it was their mission to fuck up everyone's night. lots of pushing, spitting, etc. then when we tried to move, my bag got snatched out of my hand and its contents were dumped. luckily, after much crawling around on the floor and yelling the security guard's face, i got everything back. and then we stood at the back and listened to the rest of the show.
then when i was standing in the lobby waiting for joe, mike and his entourage walked past me. there were scary security guards so i didn't go up to him, i just yelled "bye mike," but he ignored me.
but aaanyway, there were some cool people around us and stuff, and i'm sending my photos to them, just cos they were cool. i'll show you dudes later on.
so overall, it was okkkk. the fuckheads ruined it. mike did seem like he was going through the motions a bit, he was not that enthusiastic.
the end

since when are snakes fuckable?
i seen it (on video). it can be done...but the snakes are the ones doing the fucking...not being fucked. My friends step dad had some seriously fucked up shit.

I agree that Mix Master Mike has skills for days. Especially with the turntablism and the scratching, weird sounds, and all that jazz.

But for the most part, his solo shows just don't seem to interest me that much. Now, I've never actually been to a place where it's just him playing, but I've seen concerts taped of him live and I just wasn't really feeling it. I like a lot of that scratching and cool stuff like that, but every thing I've seen has him taking it all way too far... and I'm like, "Whoa. Just stop already and let the record play a little bit."

Of course, I feel the same way about Qbert too. I guess I'm just not into the "scratch only" type stuff. So I'm curious, was this a show where he mainly did the weird, tripped out tricks and turntablism or did he actually play some records too?

I've still got to see a show of his so I can make up my mind for certain on the whole ordeal... but I dunno, man. I'm not driving to Chicago or anything just to see 'im.

i like qbert way more, to be honest. i've never seen him live or anything, but he seems to have this presence, a kind of charisma. i like how his stuff sounds too. and he is cooler

I didn't want to say anything before the show, but everytime I've seen MMM live I've wished it were either with the Piklz or the B-Boys. He's good, but after a bit he kinda just drags. And the biggest props he got the first time I went was for playing 'Heart of Glass', cause we've seen the turntablism stuff before.

Like a couple that break up, and you can't bring yourself to be friends with one or the other, I'd prefer to watch him DJ for the Beasties. Turntablists are great for turntablists to watch.

Hey SSquirrel: he played GR back in April at a place called Level.

Hey Zora and KP: Did he have the crate of vinyl? Or was he using the laptop?

He had a laptop. He would do AWESOME SCRATCH SKILLZ and then quickly turn aaround and FIDDLE WITH HIS LAPTOP.

SS; he let the "records play" for about haf teh show. Wich I would not have prefered to see, but I guess you can't please everyone.

No, he didn't seem too enthusiastic to be there. "yo Hobart Tazermania what's up :|" "Yo let's make some noise :|" and his lackeys were just silently sitting around looking bored.

i quite enjoyed it

the ground was level so i couldn't see anything, we had the tallest guy in the world in front of us so i just enjoyed the music from themidst of the crowd.

highlight: dropping bohemian rhapsody

there were some other highlights, the crowd was well into it, lots of singing along

let me clear my throat <3

"Whoa. Just stop already and let the record play a little bit."

Precisely. I don't have a ton of patience for turntablism. I really have to go to a venue expecting to stand around watching the technique. to me it's not really worth the money unless I'm really close to the dj to watch.

otherwise, it's just like listening to musical jackoff. good dj's imo combine good track selection/flow with technique and watch crowd/mood timing. there are few that fit the bill, primo being one that pops to mind.
