Racism pisses me off...

So I'm new to the South right. I've always heard about the racism that exists down here and for the most part the stories are true. I have mostly been going "out" with a few black dudes from work and they've told me some stories like bout this one club that doesn't really let black people in.

Anyway I didn't know that everyone down here was racist not just the white people. Like my first week here I was all happy to be back in the US so I decided to celebrate with some KFC. I go in and got the worst service I have ever received. The cashier was just rude to me and even though I said "for here" twice my order was still packaged to go and kind of tossed at me. Whatever I figure she's just a bitch. But the lady behind me was black and was greeted with a chipper "Hey! How you doing? How can I help you" along with a big smile. Then when their transaction was complete she was like "You have a wonderful day now ma'am". Incidentally enough I was still waiting on my food at when the black lady behind me got hers.

So I chalked it up to whatever and went about my business. Well last night I was out and about and craving some KFC. As soon as I walked in the place I was like "Oh shit this is the same one they were rude at!" (I'm still learning the area) but I was really hungry and it was getting late. Once again I was pretty much treated like shit by all the people I dealt with and the black customers were treated great. I could see if I was being an asshole or something but I always greet every clerk I meet with a friendly "Hi, how are you?" or something like that.

Not sure what the point of this rambling was other than racism sucks. It's not my fault there's a lot of ignorant redneck types around here. Hell I'm not even white. My skin tone is just closer to the white folks than black ones. I dunno I guess just growing up where I did and my time in the military I have just never really given much thought to people's race. Now I'm down here and it's like an issue all of the sudden. Weird shit

dude, even the whites there are racist against the whites. When I worked at the prison there I was referred to as "The Yankee" by the other correctional officers. Seriously, I can't recall how many times I've heard some "The South will rise again" bullshit and they were quite serious.

They would always tell me to slow down when I talked because I talked too fast and have too thick of an accent and pretty much kept me working the dorms so I wouldn't have to communicate on the radio often.

That was the first corrections job I had there and needless to say, I only worked there for a few months till they started pissing me off with their slack jawed bullshit.

That's what I'm saying....I am intelligent enough to discern between the usual crappy service one gets at a fast food place and something else. Originally that's what I chalked it up to but like I said I became more observant and none of the black customers were treated the way I was...

I say you keep going to that KFC and every time you do, you sweet talk the ladies until they eventually start giggling and calling you their ____ boy or whatever color. Maybe she'll laugh and then before you know it she'll be giving you complimentary biscuits.
