View Full Version : Groups that broke up whom you'd like to see reform the most

I was thinking The Stone Roses, because of that discussion in that other thread. I'd like to see them work together again, I guess. The media's always trying to hype it up like it could happen, but I doubt it.

A Tribe Called Quest too. I think they've all proven that they're pretty much useless without one another. They should really make it happen or something.

I'd also like to see the surviving members of NWA together again. Just because. Ren and Yella got all the time in the world. The D.O.C. and Arabian Prince could even make appearances for extra nostalgia points. It'd probably suck, though.

.

A few years ago I might have agreed with you but I dont want them to now - they have all moved on and I dont think it would work. Both brown and squire have gone in different directions. Both now play roses stuff live which is good, I aint seen squire do it but brown got a tribute act in (Clone Roses) and they sounded fuckin brilliant so i am quite happy with that. It would only be for the money and I wouldnt respect them if they did and from what i know if Ian Brown he wouldnt do it for the cash and he's probably too proud and still a little hurt by what happened.

The first four groups I thought of broke up due to the leader of the band being dead.

I would like to see Brian Wilson stop the Beach Boys from their Endless Summer tour and then put out an amazing album.

OK, I'd also like to see John Fogerty reform with Creedence Clearwater for some more funky murky swampy bluesy americana music, with at least one more anti-war song.

nah mate. The last interview i read from IB was in the NME when his greatest hits cd was just released and they asked him about a reunion and he basically said squire is all for it, mentioning it in interviews and stuff BUT it's because his career is going no-place at the moment. If the shoe was on the other foot and squire had a succesful solo career just released a greatest hits album and had a however many album deal still to come he wouldn't even entertain the idea. In the mans words, it isn't going to happen. Makes me sad to be honest, it's criminal that Reni isn't drumming any more. Despite what some people think on these boards he was the backbone of that original stone roses sound

I can't really think of a group other than A Tribe Called Quest who should get back together (even though Tribe may not have the chemistry they used to).

Most of the time when groups get back together after a long time it just isn't the same, like when the Sex Pistols did back in the 90's. Sometimes it's just better to keep the groups disbanded.

I think the Sex Pistols sounded pretty good when they regrouped. The Filthy Lucre Live album sounds amazing.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong they sounded great but the whole tour was only for money and they didn't even make a new album so that's what I meant by "it wasn't the same."

no no no no no

We've already seen what happened with that, eh?

Eric A. is the only one who maintained his integrity by refusing to get involved.

Me...? Hmmm....

Bob Mould is so hit or miss; it's hard to know what would happen if he put Sugar back together again. What I do know is it seems that David Rabe was underused as a songwriter.

The Sabres of Paradise - Andy Weatherall is still knockin about and his two ex bandmates (Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns) still produce but they were awesome.

I know Underworld are still recording but they have been utter shite since Darren emerson left. Disappeared totally up their own arse, he should come back. Apparently he didnt do too much, he was the ears of the band and used to DJ the stuff they had just made to get a feel of whether people would like it and it shows he has left cos they seem really out of touch and arent doing anything like they used to

I'm conflicted about most band's reforming. Don't get me wrong, if they can honestly pull it off and manage to do something great again, I'm open to it. But as a general rule, if you've disbanded, keep it in the past and just move on to new things.

If bands are to re-form, there can only be a short window of a few years for them to get back together and continue like it was old times.

Because more often than not, it just comes off as a cynical reunion tour/nostalgia circuit type of thing.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that Minor Threat broke up far too soon. But does that mean I'd be interested in seeing them reform 20 years later? Not a chance. I like MacKaye's musical evolution, not him taking a step back.

Why? Sting is lame as a solo artist (well, he's done some good stuff right after leaving The Police, but he hasn't exactly done anything worthwhile in the last 10 years or so) and any potential reunion would just cheapen The Police's legacy.

They did 5 wonderful albums, but their reunion just wouldn't be the same as it was in 1979.

Your friendly, neighborhood emcee, Steve-Onpoint, is now an official member of hip-hop's legendary, politically-conscious, newly-reunited, party pack The Goats!

I'm currently working with Maxx, Derek, and the rest of the squad on new Goats' material and preparing for a possible, east coast tour in the near future. It's a dream come true to be a key player in the project's development. I'll keep you posted.
