I have the Batman: Cult series. I thought those would be worth a good amount...but they are only selling for like $30 for the whole series on ebay.
Same with The Sandman. I have the first like 20 issues of that and they aren't worth shit.

I took mine to a card shop. You can also research it on the internet.

I only collected football cards. I have a bunch of good rookie cards--Walter Payton is my favorite and most expensive. The card shop guy offered me 100 bucks on the spot. I didn't take it. He looked over my 2 books and estimated that they are worth $1000 or more. I really think the problem with cards is that you need to find a buyer. I'm just going to hold them and then give them to my son. They are all in laminated sleeves for protection.

Do they still make Wizard magazine that had all of the prices of comic books? They aren't worth shit anymore. Damn it. I dropped $30 bucks on a Punisher back in the day. $#^@$@ I too have boxes of comics. Save them for when your grandchildren have nothing to burn to keep warm after the nuclear winter :(

Your best bet is to do searches on ebay for closed auctions for the stuff you have.

That will give you the best gauge for what your stuff is worth.

The pricebooks are useless, they don't represent the market very well.
