all while riding i kept on mentally designing the perfect seat for a bike. it turns out that it looks like a couch with wheels and pedals.

The spot where the groin meets the thigh meets the butt. Sorta.
But only on my right side, for some reason.

They sell seats that are about twice the width of a normal bike seat. The bike I used to use had one and it was nice...the others dont really bother me but on extended rides it doesnt cushion your ass well.

It goes away. Especially as you tone that area.
I rarely, rarely, rarely even notice.

stay on the pedals.
actually, maybe get one of them gel (http://www.jbimporters.com/dealerarea/product-images/49233)seats. $24.95 and it fits all bikes.
also if you're riding a saddle that was designed for a man, that could be your problem. turns out boy dogs and girl dogs have different parts.
az: for them chaffed nuts try a lil gold bond extra strength medicated powder . it burns as it soothes.

...are we talking about that same quasi-creasey spot? It's no big deal; I just notice every now and again, and never while I'm actually riding.
Maybe because I don't do the biker shorts thang, so everything's not all gathered up in one convenient little hamper.

OH GOD NO! My butt started hurting, so I stood on the pedals...except the left pedal was loose and slid off as i was pedaling and I fell pretty hard. I managed to hit my elbow first, which may have saved my life. I still hit my head on the pavement at a pretty good speed...not wearing a helmet. I had a moderate to severe concussion, they had to medivac me by helicopter to the mainland. I was in the emergency room which I don't remember too much. I had to relearn to walk for the most part, my balance was fucked up beyond belief, and it didn't get fully fixed for about a year. My speech was slurred for a while there, and sometimes you can still hear it if you listen closely.
You know, I still have a wee little bump in my skull from it, too. I'm really lucky I didn't die or have any internal bleeding. The docs said that if I hadn't put out my elbow to take some of the crash, I could have cracked my skull and gotten internal bleeding and well...pretty much be dead or a vegetable now. :(
They have really cushy wide seats at bike stores. I want one, because my bike seat has been killing my ass recently.

I still ride my bike quite a lot. I used to ride it everyday but now my commute to work has gotten a little spooky (too many highways with too little shoulder) it was actually easier to ride everywhere living downtown Seattle.
I always wear the geeky lycra padded bicycle shorts, it just made sense after putting on a few thousand miles, my butt never hurt from regular shorts but it sure can get akward and uncomfortable around the boys wearing jean cutoffs on a bike :) . I have a regular Avocet padded seat and really have never had any problem except at first when I started breaking in. Your bikes weight and suspension make a huge difference on how the ride effects your body too. A clunker will destroy your ass.
Anyway as far as chaffing and stuff use Balmex Diaper rash cream or any other zinc oxide cream the stuff works great, it's part of biking.

I haven't had any problems and I ride my bike daily (approx 4-6 miles)
my seat is pretty good for a foam seat, a bit chewed up from squirrels, but I'm afraid to get a new seat that might not be as comfortable

I just read Qeenies story "ouch", I always ALWAYS wear a helmet, I broke my arm riding downtown a couple of years ago, I landed head first when I did or so they tell me I also had a slight concussion. I was able to pedal with one good arm after I snapped too and go to the walk-in clinic.
The helmet had a huge gash right where the ole' frontal lobe is.
just saying you really should wear a helmet.

I always, always do. But I was vacationing when I was 13 on the OBX and I wanted to take a ride, and I forgot mine at home and asked my brother for his and he said "no way" so I said "Fine if I crack my skull open it's your fault." and did it out of spite.
I bet he felt guilty. :(

i have a great bike, my brother picked it out. he's been biking since he was 10, and he does bmx biking and shit. so, anyway, he has horror stories up the wall due to biking. actually, the funniest one is when he got hit by a slow-moving limo and got hit in the balls. it was very funny watching him suffer due to bruised balls.
anyway... the seat they got me is a chick seat, it's supposed to be comfortable for girls. but ive never had a chick seat before. maybe that's the problem. i have a dude's butt. :( ahh i shall send the bro to buy me a new seat.
thanks for the replies. and queenad: i cant believe you still bike after all that. but power to ya.

I didn't do it for years and years...finally in late high school I said, fuck this. I used to enjoy biking and I will again!
So I got my bike out of my shed, and saw that the handlebars were off-center still from the crash..and the paint job on the front was partially chipped off and my front mirror was horribly bent. I fixed all that, though.
When I first started riding again, I'd get these memories that I had forgotten come rushing back - the feeling of hitting the pavement, some man talking to me and asking me where my parents' campsite was, trying to get back on my bike and ride it only to find out for some reason I was unable to. They've gone away almost entirely, seeing as how it was 10 years ago.
So, yay biking again! :)

every year i this happens to me. you're body needs to adjust to it
you just have to get use to it or get a seat that you actually sit on and not straddle

you don't really get it to stop, it's just a part of it.

my butt hurts right now a bit. I think it's the underwear I'm wearing though. but you get used to the pain. try tilting your seat downwards a bit more, it changes where the seat contacts your bum. I have a really hard seat and it used to be almost unbearable until I discovered tipping it forward. otherwise, like a-z said, your muscles firm up and adapt to the pressure.
