and please try to do this objectively, any person who writes "5 stars" for every album should be ignored...
to the 5 boroughs -3 stars
paul's boutique - 4 stars (it probably deserves 5, but i personally don't get this album, but i respect the groundbreaking"ness" of it nonetheless)
licensed to ill - 4.5 stars
ill communication -3 stars
Check your head - 3.5/4 stars (too hard to decide)

HN=4.5
TT5B=4.5
i wouldn't go lower than a 4.5 on any of them. i know some people say TT5B is where they "fell off" or whatever, even after hello nasty, but really, they've all been great on so many levels, so when you rate them based on the quality and such, they come close. i didn't rate them based on 'oh this album was better than the last...' so that's my own honest opinion for each album. that was difficult though. i would've done better on a 1-100 scale perhaps...but PB, IC, and CYH would come out on top each time. They are all 5 stars! Based on that time in their career.
If you were comparing a 20 year old vagina to a 40 year old vagina...yea it may look different...but its still some great vagina

LTI- 4.5 A bit dated for me now, but every track is solid.
PB- 4.5 I liked it at the time it came out & still love it.
CYH- 5 For me the best Beastie record. Perfect mix of flavors & songs.
IC- 4 Good album, but some songs felt like CYH leftovers.
HN- 3 Too many obscure tracks for me, should've cut 4 or 5 songs.
TT5B- 3.5 A good hip hop album, grew on me after a while.

if you had looked harder you would probably have seen that i put a dash before each score, i simply missed the spacebar my friend :p
but yeah, i like ill communication, it's just i get tired of the microphone effect they have on most of the songs, not enough straight up hip hop on that album for me, though i still do enjoy the instrumentals

The first three are by-far the best, to me. Although it's hard not to rate every album a 5 since I'm such a big fan...Objectively though, I'd rank them like this...
Licensed To Ill- 5. Classic, ground-breaking hip hop album that's stood the test of time. Whether they like this time of their career or not, this album is a classic.
Pauls Boutique- 5. Even more ground-breaking than the original. Better rhymes, better beats, better production. Incredible. Would give it higher than a 5 if I could.
Check Your Head- 4.5. This is my favorite Beasties album, but theres maybe 1 or 2 tracks keeping it back from being a perfect 5. Time For Living, for instance seems a bit out of place.
Ill Communications- 3. My least favorite Beasties album. Some of the hip hop tracks are great, but there was too much punk for me, and way too much distortion on the mics. I respect the fact that they loved the sound, it's their music not mine. But at some points it just got annoying. Just kinda seemed like CYH-Lite.
Hello Nasty- 3.5. The beats on the hip hop tracks are amazing. I wonder where they got some of those fucking sounds from. That's why you gotta love the Beasties so much. It was really creative, but some of the tracks just kind of morphed into one another, sounding exactly the same. Also, lyrically I think this is by far their worst effort. It seems like they were ultra-PC during this time for some reason. Like they were wearing those button down half-sleeves a bit too tight.
To The 5 Boroughs- 4. I really, really liked this album. Really brought it back to the basics. Reminded me of old Run Dmc and LL Cool J tracks. Just a simple beat that hits heavy with old-school raps on top of it. Straight up hip hop. A little bit too political for me, as I dont agree with all their political views. Honestly, the only thing thats holding this back from a 4.5/5 is the fact that all of the percussion (outside of Ch Check It Out and 3 The Hard Way) sound kinda "lite." They dont have anywhere near the punch as the beats on Licensed To Ill or Hello Nasty. Maybe it's because I read how it was all done on computers, or maybe it's just how they mixed it...Who knows, still a really really solid album. And lyrically, I thought it was definitely the best since Pauls Boutique.

Licensed To Ill: 4 - Great rhymes, but the sexist crap annoys me.
Paul's Boutique: 5 - A masterpiece.
Check Your Head: 4.5 - Transition period for the boys.
Ill Communication: 4.5 - Some really interesting songs.
Hello Nasty: 5 - Full of all kinds of great songs; takes me to another planet.
To The 5 Boroughs: 4.5 - Cool songs; well worth the wait.

The first 3 are all 4.09 stars.
Ill Comms is 3.75. But saying the mics and shit suck, man nobody was doing that in 94. It was crazy. And the music is good. They breakdanced on grunge's grave.
TT5B is 4 somedays, 3.575 on others.
The one I'm liking the most at the moment is Hello Nasty. It's like a real nice mixtape. Very well constructed album. Hate Song for the Man, but hey, I'll live. 4.18.

i agree ...at the time the mic distortion was a new style (probably done largely out of functionality)...but it made it more mainstreem...now pop acts are doing that sh**t

ill communication seems to be the most underrated, as well as individual tracks
(alright hear this, the scoop, do it, etc) i think it's got the best beats, best overall rhythm and vibe to it. sometimes it sounds cyh-like, but it's really developed into it's own individual style that pulls away from that sound...it's almost rough around the edges but it works.
hello nasty, i'm glad to see has gotten good ratings and isn't being overlooked, because you don't hear a lot of talk about that particular album much around here anymore. it's got the most unique sounds i've ever heard on any album before.
paul's boutique i can't see getting anything under a 5 really...unless it just didn't click with some people, i understand then. it should get a 5 based on the last tracks alone. (lb) :D

i totally 100% agree, i was listening to it today for the first time in about 5 months at least, and it still BLOWS ME AWAY. The beats on that album and added sound effects behind the main backbeats are just genius. And it does have some good lyrics to it if you listen. The boys also shape their voices to accent the song more on this album than on any other by far, it demonstrates their rapping abilities better than any other album yet i'd say. I hope with time it becomes more appreciated as paul's boutique did. There simply is not one bad rap song on Hello Nasty IMO. Though there are about 3 or 4 too many songs overall i'd say

Licensed to Ill ......5 stars ....... its a classic & i love how they seem like they're these goofy teenagers who just love making hip hop music
Paul's Boutique.........5 stars ......... the rhymes & the lyrics are fresh & just so creative & i always start laughing when listening to this album
Check Your Head .......4 stars .....the funky music on this album mixed with some hardcore & great hip hop
Ill Communication..... 3.5 stars ........too much instrumentals for me but it makes up for it with amazing songs that actually have them speaking
Hello Nasty .......5 stars......the FRESH BEATS! is what i love the most out of this album & the goofy ryhmes but the beats just make me go WOW while the funny ryhmes make me laugh
To The 5 Boroughs .....4 stars.....is more of a modern twist on hip hop back in the day. .i think 80% of the lyrics are great & the other 20% are kinda meh
this is just a brief personally review of each album

Come now, friend. It's a little bit shit. Not entirely, but a little bit. I just got Live from Planet X finally, good times.
Are we friends again?
Licensed To Ill - (3/5) The punk-kid attitudes were funny, but I don't like listening to the album a lot.
Paul's Boutique - (4/5) This one went all over the place. It sounded really fun. I liked that they would trade off rhymes so quickly on some songs.
Check Your Head - (4/5) I love the distorted vocals, for one thing, and the variety of music on this were nice.
Ill Communication - (5/5) Out of all albums, I listen to this the most. Because it has a greater amount of distorted vocals. I would like the next album to go back to the distorted vocals.
Hello Nasty - (5/5) The more electronic-based style won me over. I like the sci-fi/futuristic themes on it.
To The 5 Boroughs - (2/5) I appreciated the old school hiphop style, but I didn't like it so much. There's no particular reason why. It's just not my preference.
