Well, really, I'm not so much outraged as I am amused.

See link for background: http://detritus.net/contact/rumori/199912/0142.html

Basically, to be legit for releasing Rock Hard on Paul's Boutique, Mike D had to track down ACDC and was rebuffed by them since, according to Angus Young, Back in Black was such a rock and roll anthem. then...THEN (years later), what do I see on TV the other week?????? Katherine Hepburn prancing around reintrducing GAP's black pant...to the tune of...you guessed it ...BACK IN FUC&ING BLACK. That's irony right?

What think you?

EDIT: Added nouns, verbs and prepositions and removed a few dangling modifiers.

thats pretty messed up

i mean mike wanted to use it cuz thats what they wanted to express through music & they used the sampling as artist making music..... & GAP just wanted it to sell skinny pants...i also heard the same DC song on a VH1 countdown show:p

rock hard was NEVER going to be released on the pauls boutique album. It could have been for licensed to ill........(I believe they actually released it as a single in 85)
ACDC just didnt give the beasties permission to put it on the anthology in 99.

rock hard was def jam's 2nd ever 12 inch single. (the first being ll cool j). it was on sale for a grand total of 2 weeks before getting pulled from the shelves due to the unauthorised acdc sample. this makes it (behind country mike's greatest hits) one of the rarest beastie boys singles to find on vinyl. i do believe its a B side on the 'girls' 12 inch single, im not sure how it was allowed to be released there.

I stand corrected. I should have put a proviso that I am by no means up to speed on all things BB. Nevertheless, I think it just completely stinks that AC/DC turns down other artists (albeit in another genre) only to sell out to GAP. I can't stop shaking my head. I went home last night and there it was again - I just laugh, I would love some reporter to put this to Angus Young or anyone in AC/DC and see them squirm. Of course, these guys aren't paid to take morally astute positions, they are...oh forget it, I really just go on an d on about nothing alot of the time...cheers.

sorry just some stuff i have to clear up here

Contrary to popular belief def jam’s first single was not ll cool j’s “I need a beat”.

Def jam’s first official single was the single "It's Yours" by T La Rock and Jazzy Jay. Because the beasties didn’t have enough material to play in their set the beasties would often cover “It’s Yours” when they were opening up for Madona during here like a virgin tour. (the other songs being “drum machine”, “rock hard”, “beastie groove”, “she’s on it”)
“I need a beat” and “it’s yours” both came out in 1984 so i think that’s maybee why people confuse the two

As for rock hard, I belive it was circulating around in some stores for awhile but got pulled of the shelves once ac/dc found out about it. (that’s why it is easier to find copies of rock hard compared to country mike which is limited to fewer copies because it was only sent out to family and friends)

Since the “rock hard” single came out there have been other artists that have used or sampled “back in black” either because ac/dc has let them or didn’t know of it. Example: http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=70819&highlight=krs

I have seen the maroon def jam version of this record plenty of times in the used bin. Reason being that those track sucks. It did not appear with Girls first.... It was Rock Hard/Party's Gettin' Rough/Beastie Groove 12" in 1985.
I think those beats are pretty much the epitimy of suck.

technically its T La Rock's "It's Yours" but i remember reading this book all about Def Jam & & on the Def Jam catolauge or chart thingy hehe... LLCoolJ's "I Need a Beat" is listed as 001 then the Beastie Boy's "Rock Hard" is 002 or something like that

this news definately underlines a certain latent uptightness in AC/DC's demeanor

i never said it appeared on girls first. yeah the track is pretty average.

and ggirlballa is right, i need a beat is dj001 and rock hard is dj002.

i got 2 copies of rock hard, one of them being the uber rare misspress where they didnt use enough wax and if u hold it up to the light u can see thru it and its very bendy.

just sayin.
