who here has had or has a pet rat?(y)
I've had three rats and i loved em all. they have alot of personality and are really sweet. I don't think I can manage to keep one now that I have a cat who hunts mice, but if I could I'd still own rats.
lots of people don't like rats though. and most comonly I heard people say that they are grossed out by thier tails. I theorize that if rats had furry tails like squirls or gerbils they'd be loved. but they are persecuted for thier nakid tails...oh and I don't think they ever recovered from that whole black death rap they got...but that was a fault of fleas not rats!
um yeah. so I like rats.

We have them at the shelter all the time and I think they're a great pet. I am fostering one right now. They are smart and they bond with their owners. The drawbacks really are they can be messy so you have to keep their cage clean, and they chew on stuff so you have to be careful what you put next to their cage (R.I.P. Volcom jacket). They don't have a very long lifespan (2-4 years) so that can be a good thing and a bad thing. Less commitment, but also less time to spend with your pet.
My rat is called Oven Mitt. Because she came to the shelter sleeping in an oven mitt.

awe i want you to send her to me!
oh the chewing thing oh yes. right before my trip to iceland years ago I bought a super cute torque and I left it right next to Mushika's cage. and Little Mu saw that and through OMG what excellent nest material! so he pulled it into his cage and chewed a hole in it. and i basically had to make the hat in to a purse because it couldn't be a hat anymore. He also destoyed the hood of my wool dragon coat, but again my fault for leaving it near him. I use to let him run freely in the house alot too...until he started chewing a tunnel through the middle of the foam futon matress.
ah but rats are so much fun! I use to love answering my door on halloween with my rat on my shoulder. the kids get a kick out of it.

Didnt even know there was such a movie although i reckon he was only young when he wrote it and his record co prolly wouldnt have wanted him associated with that movie at that time, i dunno.

na... he wrote it for the movie, pretty damn sure of it. you gotta see the movie actually. so much cheesy goodness.
they remade it actually with Crispin Glover. thought that one sucked quite a bit. and I don't think it was called Ben.

I like rats, but they're dirty and make me scream out loud when I see one on the street. except the other day when I saw a baby rat dying from poison in the alley and I burst into tears. :o

rats are incredibly awesome, unless they are with disease. I'm not into diseased rats so much.
