so I'm having a winning streak lately.
I won this $1500 voucher for a cruise at my gym a month and a half ago right, maybe two. And yesterday I went to Ikea because I needed to get stuff for my room. It's their "birthday" and they had cake out. I wanted to get some free cake so they informed me that I had to fill out some raffle ticket scratcher thing so I was like "fine whatever" did it so I could get my ass a free piece of cake and went on my way.
This morning I get a call informing me I won the Ikea raffle:$6000 shopping spree @ Ikea, yo!
wtf. I need to buy a lotto ticket. This is kind of scary though. With all this luck, watch, next week I'll get hit by a car or something ;/
That is pretty fucking dope. $6000 is a lot of Ikea furniture. i think.

the Ikea man is now the 3rd richest man in the world. he should;ve given you more than 6 g's of furniture

good shit.
me personally I would see if I could exchange the voucher for cash as I cant really see getting $6k worth of Ikea furniture. $1000 sure, but I would want the other 5 grand for other shit.

I'm thinking that will be my plan. Especially to pay off my medical debt. I figure all I need is a nicer mattress, so I'll take back the one I bought. Then a few shelves, and some organizers for my closer. That's it. Maybe linens or something who knows.
But yeah. The rest, I want to pay off my medical debt.
The Notorious LOL
10-06-2006, 10:31 AM
I dont think they'll let you return your mattress. Some law about that. Its in a stores mind, similar to returning underwear. Craigslist it.
but yeah, a thou at Ikea could get you a lot of really nice shit.

HOLY CRAP I WANT TO WIN THAT!
Ikea has such a variety of things these days. there's a table set I really really really want. it looks better in the catalog, but it's pretty cool. (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15564&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=75724&langId=-1&categoryId=15801&chosenPartNumber=70092553)

we thought about buying that because we have a leetle apartment to fit lotsa shit in. it's not very comfortable though, eating on a corner. but we have the couch for eating on, so i guess it would serve its purpose of looking cool!

fuckin eh!
$6k at ikea is a pretty sweet prize. if you have a hard time redeeming or hustlin like moa suggested at the very least -- you can buy all your birthday and xmas gifts for people until the money runs out.
sweet deal, congrats.
orlando is getting florida's first ikea in late 07 i think.

...can your shopping spree be gift certificates?
If so, I'd probably buy about $5k in $50 gift certificates and sell them seventy-five cents on the dollar via Craigslist. E-bay=eighty cents on the dollar to pay for listings and stuff.
Dr Deaf
10-06-2006, 01:51 PM
or you could just buy $.50 hotdogs with them.

ish. these days they're probably all about the gift cards. that means each purchase is simply subtracted off the total and a new balance remains until its exhaustion.
you and moas craigslist idea sounds do-able. that or just hang out around ikea and offer people 10-20% off their purchase. i'm sure the ikea people would frown about that. its probably against their TOS too.
bah. nothing for nothing these days, ba01, you should just send it over to me. its just going to cause you grief.

yeah obviously you would have to take a bit of a "loss" because what does joe six pack profit from having some strange girl buy his stuff? it just complicates things. However, you figure six thousand, you spend one thousand and sell/redeem the remaining value for 75% of the value, thats $3750 approx that you didnt have yesterday.

yeah that's what I was thinking. I figured I wouldn't get the full 6k when I sell them off, which is fine.
Turns out it all is in $500 dollar gift cards. So I have a lot of them. What's fair, do you think? save $100 bucks, pay me $400 for this $500 card?
I don't know.

say 450, then if people start haggling, go down to 400.

Congrats!
I've been dreaming of getting about 10.000 SEK voucher for IKEA cause I so totally need to re-do my bedroom. I need a bigger bed (it's way too small for two large persons... :( ) and all of the furniture has shaky legs, the lamp and bookselves are dumbster finds and I need more storage space as well... I went there (to the worlds' first IKEA store) on Tuesday and got some starry fairylights to put up on my ceiling in the bedroom. It didn't quite make the effect I wanted (need to get some black/dark navy cloth where the stars can shine through), but close.

I would ebay them with a reserve of $400 and a three day auction and see how they do.

yeah a dollar an auction. Holy shit.
otherwise try Craigslist and see whats offered. Craigslist people are all "yeah Im interested! lemme call!" and then never call though. If I wanted money quick for it, I would ebay em.

don't forget to save a few hundred dollars for taxes. unless you normally get a big return and this extra 6k doesn't bump you into a new tax bracket.
