benefit show & hip hop honors

Oct 4 - Oct 7

It seems like there are 32 million threads for pics, video, stories, etc, so maybe everyone can post their thoughts here? if not, let the thread fall i guess...

what can i say? ok it wasnt a week, but damn that was an action packed few days, it went by slowly, i was able to savor every second....

pooty, dandy and even youngremy all stayed with me at some point, my little hole in the wall close to the city - we were all so wired, my walls are about to fall over... you guys are a ton of fun.

we walked to much, showing the city, my feet have the callouses to prove it..

the benefit show was incredible. i didnt think id get as freaked as i did, two minutes into the performance, i was jumping up and down like a maniac. man, they do it to me every time. what was up with mike? all tan and shit. boy likes to hit the beach apparently...

it was great to meet all of you: poots, dandy, cey, bgirl, pauli, her friend, lave, rob$ (i didnt tell you i was bionic), mae, docu, lynn, yr of course, steveonpizzle, paulb, jenny, and everyone else my still hungover ass cant remember.

i have to say this: it seems like this board attracts a certain type of people. you were all so great, and mostly the type of person i would be friends with even if i had met you in "real life". im so happy you all got to come in and enjoy some excellent times, all together and apart. for those of us (you know who you are) that got to hang out at those bars on friday night, that was probably one of the most enjoyable nights i've had all year. it was a privelege to get to spend that time together as a group, talk about shit in general, trade stories - there was a great vibe, friendship - thanks for being so cool, guys.

the benefit show was incredible, to be so close and to hear that amazing set list was fucking out of this world. my videos of it are in my signature, in case anyone wants to see... ive realized that i have no pics of myself :( thats a small bummer. eh well... it was great getting some eats afterwards, even though a can of coke was $3. i hear those burgers were amazing.

the show on saturday was even more incredible. thanks to poots*** and for the hook-up - i know it wasnt meant for me, but thank you from the bottom of my heart ... you made this boys wildest dreams come true, i dont know how else to say it. as soon as we got in there, we saw hurricane. at first i didnt believe it was him, he was skinny and looked younger than the last pics ive seen of him. someone went up to talk to him, but the convo only lasted a minute. he didnt seem too talkative. everywhere i looked there was a legend, i dont think i could even even have a dream so surreal.

man, ive been slacking off of work like crazy the last week. i wanted to get this down and get back to it. im looking forward to reading more stories, there are too many threads to check

lots of love from nyc to all you guys

- b

oh and guys, get your tivos and dvd-r's ready, the hhh was incredible - dont miss it.

theres someone that i had a little static with, you know who you are - im not mentioning names. all i can say is you're still absolutely 1000% wrong, and i do believe i deserve an apology but i know that we have some things in common and i still respect your dedication to the band. i think youre view of the situation is confused and possibly well intentioned, so im not going to let it ruin what has been an amazing time, and even otherwise some good fun with you.

I've been told by non-MBers that the HHH performance was weak. Any truth?

naw not at all... i was going in critical and i thought it was a STRONG performance. you could tell they had rehearsed because the medley was all cut up and there were no mistakes performancewise. they probably meant that there was a mic failure a couple of times, but the performances were incredible, set up in a medley style.... they had to do so whatcha want twice, so that took a little bit of the energy from the crowd. everyone around us, black, white, yellow, purple, all the hip hop legends, EVERYONE was boppin their heads and feelin it. this one lady next to me turned and goes, "they white boys is ill!". when we went to smoke in the bathroom, there were some people with the wu-tang entourage in there who were saying that they thought the beastie boys were the second if not best performance. lots of love and respect in the place. i was more than satisfied

I've been told by non-MBers that the HHH performance was weak. Any truth?

The sound system was amazing. The energy was super high...then they had mic problems. The energy drained out fast.

The crew folks came out on stage with headphones and shit...and they started over. This time the mics worked but the Beasties flubbed a couple of lines so it wasn't perfect. Maybe for the airing next week they can edit it together.

I wasn't really paying attention to the crowd but the Beasties were all over the U Shaped stage. I personally loved getting to hear the SWW twice. :)

It wasn't a "beastie crowd" but they did get major applause and respect.

In the spirit of the thread.

20 hours in NYC. I still think it was a dream.

It was awesome to meet up with all the BBMBers. I wish I could have been there on Wed.

Meeting Horovitz on the street and forgetting to ask him about the mashed potato sample.

I had coffee in Paul's Boutique, stopped by 59 Chrystie St.

HHHonors was just incredible. I'm still a bit speechless. (y)

I noticed that the crowd was not impressed by the technical errors... they were booing at the sound crew for botching what would have been an amazing performance...

but twice is nice and they delivered the goods regardless

This whole half-a-week was defdifying and tantilizing. I think if I ever get back to NYC, I will not have as good a time as these past 4 days.

Again, thanks to everyone for showing me such a good time.

Even though I sincerely wish I could have stayed the rest of the week to hang out with you guys, I had an amazing time there!! Bionic was nice enough to let me crash at his place one night, and staying up till all hours talking about the Bboys with him and Pooty was a favorite memory of mine. Thanks for everything, guys!

this is not a bad idea......they should do an exclusive mb show.....

I'm there tonight (CBGB's wednesday). Hope it's a good HR show and not a weird HR show. Anyone know the scoop from monday and tuesday's Bad Brains performances?

I'd also like to add that I had the time of my life as a Beastie Boys fan this past week with the Hiro benefit and the Hip Hop Honors. I thought my days of bugging out at BBoy shows was nearing an end but this blast of energy has lifted my spirits and reminded me why I'm a Beastie Boys fan for life.

you know what added to the best week of my life, that i just remembered...

Remember after the benefit show the guy running down the street yelling in a suit!

this buisness guy starts running from the top of the street down, yelling, in the rain, saying MOVE, AHHHH, GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!

It was bizarre, and as he was running, he ran past this fat guy and was like "YOU COULD LOSE SOME WEIGHT"

and ran into the intersection and everything
it was hilarious

in response to paul's story of a crazy business man running down the street....

me and my boyfriend did a little running of our own.

so at the end of the show, me and a few other ladies in the front are begging for the setlist at the top of an amp. the guy working ignores us, takes the setlist and hands it to some guy just standing there at the side of the stage. so i walk up and ask him politely for it, he responds "no i'm giving it to a girl that was begging all night for it" liar! he just walks away towards the exit. we are also walking out, the guy actually drops the thing and my boyfriend grabs it, we run ( i feel slightly bad about taking it but oh well)

so i get outside the guy chases me down and grabs me yelling "hey i have your girlfriend!" (he actually left a bruise on my arm from squeezing so hard) my boyfriend runs back to us and shoves him, i go down with him. i get up and we're off running through the streets.

i feel kinda dumb, all this trouble over a piece of paper, but its over with, and its sitting nicely in a frame on my wall.

besides this moment of fear... WOW IT WAS AN AWESOME NIGHT!!!!

Hah. Yeah - he actually WAS getting it for a friend who really wanted it. Someone who is very very kind to fans in getting info. What you guys did was fairly lame. Shoving someone to get a setlist = not cool.

b i o n i c
10-11-2006, 04:54 PM
I can't believe someone would hurt another human being for a piece of paper.

thats lame.. there were a few people who saw it. and there was also a camera that did im pretty sure. the dude who took the set list pushed his girlfriend into this boardmember who fell down some stairs. it happened so fast, i had no idea what had happened till the next day. thats really fucked up. whats with using your girlfriend as a weapon.. jeeze

paulb
10-11-2006, 04:56 PM
wow, where was i when this happened? *prob talkin to Yauch*

very weird how you have both sides of the story on this boards...

mellowlikejello
10-11-2006, 05:00 PM
wow. i'm really really sorry for everything that happened.
it was only brought to a physical level because a stranger had me held with force... i understand why my boyfriend would shove someone because of that.... if he just said something to me instead of getting violent and grabbing me, it would have turned out completely different (talking to me would have resulted in just giving it back). i think both parties are at fault, even though we started it. if whomever was supposed to get the setlist wants it that bad, i'll send it to them. obviously i never wanted it to turn out like that. and you don't know how bad i feel, even tho whatever i say probably won't fix anything. but i'm really sorry.

b i o n i c
10-11-2006, 05:03 PM
he held on to your arm because you guys had his property and were trying to run away. i dont think you'd be able to hear him if he 'talked' to you from down the block. the bruise is probably somewhat from being grabbed but moreso from the force of you trying to pull your arm out and run away.

if it was a matter of just getting caught up in the moment, there's still time to make it right. it really is dumb, over a piece of paper... when are you guys mailing that dumb piece of paper back to the owner?

Shame Shame Shame Shame. You should be holding your head in shame over this whole situation. The reason this guy on the side got the setlist in the first place is because he asked for it way before you did.

You should hang your head in shame and never come back to this place. Mam, you and your boyfriend are not true fans and should simply be banned from the MB and any other Beastie Boy activities such as Concerts and Special Appearances.

I think he was more pissed off that the dude pulled that shit in the first place, not just that it was a setlist. More about the guy being a pussy.

mellowlikejello
10-11-2006, 05:58 PM
Yeah, it's not about the setlist. It's more like he'd want a promise that they will try to be better human beings in the future and not hurt people.

if someone tells me how to get in touch with this person, they can have the setlist, and a proper apology, i realize that they do deserve both.

i'll admit that yes, taking it was wrong. but everything that happened afterwards was just reaction to the situation. be upset about taking it, but the shoving, was only in response. if someone was holding your girlfriend and when you ask for them to let her go, they don't.. do you just stand there? most people would probably be pretty scared about what might happen to her. when i was grabbed i stopped immediately, was calm, didn't struggle and only said "i don't have anything".

once i heard the person was indeed from this board, and a real fan, i felt a million times worse than before. once again, sorry and someone please PM me about how to get intouch with them. and i understand why you're all very angry at me, i would be too if it happened to a friend. i'm not doing this to get respect and acceptance from everyone here, i'm doing it because it was a mistake and i honestly want to apologize.

Wow! This is out of control.

Well.... the truth of the matter is that I WAS going to give the setlist to Miramanee. You and you boyfriend asked me for the setlist when I got it. I told you "no I have someone that I'm giving it to". For some reason the guy on stage insisted that I take Mike D's mug of tea as well as the setlist (I put it down ..... what the hell was I going to do with a mug?!??). No sooner do I deny your request, and walk toward the exit of the Ballroom out onto the street, your boyfriend runs up behind me and GRABS the setlist from my hand (I never dropped it). As you ran by, I did grab your arm, to hold you until your b/f came back. This is the kicker # 1 or 2 here for me ...... the b/f turns around and sees the his lady, I say "hey, give that shit back"......the b/f charges like a ram into me but uses HIS GIRLFRIEND as the battering ram. It knocs me down the flight of stairs and her halfway down (real brave). He grabs her and runs off. I get up brush myself off and decide "Fuck that....he just stole from me", so I decide to give chase. They were slowing down because I waited a few seconds before I chased after them.
Kicker #2 .... as I run up the guy starts cocking back his arm and punches me as hard as he can in the face. (No marks left behind by the way, which is funny for other reasons to me) I say "You actually are going to fight me over a piece of paper" to which he said, (while dancng around like some sort of half assed boxer), "You don't need this setlist as much I do Bro, I'll fight you over it"

I don't know if I'll ever hear something so stupid again in my life, so I decide to let it go. Obviously he DOES need it more than me.

To the girl with the bruise .....I apologize if I caused that, but you might want to think back to when your b/f used you as some sort of human shield.

Thanks to all for trying to get the set list back and even going so far as to give me a copy of yours, as I said, it was goiing to go to someone who traveled a distance to see them and who does some good reporting around here.

i offered all the apologies i could. while it was wrong to take it, some of your statements are a little exaggerated/incorrect. (like how he yelled a few times to let go of me, he didn't just charge at you, it just seemed like everything you said was an effort to make him sound like a total idiot, and i highly doubt he said that in conversation). but it doesnt matter now. obviously nobody wants to look like they did anything wrong at all, i didn't when i first posted.

everything else done, was in my defense. he only said he had no clue what you were going to do, he turned around and stood there and you just charged at him, honestly most people wouldn't just stand there not knowing what was going to happen. but these are details not worth arguing over anymore.

Miramanee, if you want it, it's yours... you deserve it. PM me if you like.

hopefully this is all done with now. it can be fixed. let's just remember the night for the show, because we all know it was amazing. lets not let 3 stupid minutes ruin it.

You could all get into trouble for fighting over a piece of paper.

It's totally chickenshit to take something from someone in the first place--fan or no fan. And it sounds like a very lop-sided situation. But if someone victimizes you, you can't use self help and hold someone hostage. I know that the instinct is to give chase, but it's a bad instinct. Don't you all watch Judge Judy? :)

And wouldn't M have felt just dreadful if you had been seriously hurt, or seriously hurt someone else?

My nephew did something equally stupid -- he spent some time at the hospital AND got charged with a gross misdemeanor.

come on, i'm trying here... i can't do anything about that so i'm doing what i can. he could've been the bigger person and let it go (i'm not trying to be a jerk about this.. i'm just sayin'). the situation lasted about 3 minutes, nobody had to let that ruin a whole night.

end of arguement on my half. it seems like my apology was not accepted, but at least i gave an honest effort, and offered to do all i could to help fix it.

it was a mistake, i'm sorry.. and thats that i guess.

naw not at all... i was going in critical and i thought it was a STRONG performance. you could tell they had rehearsed because the medley was all cut up and there were no mistakes performancewise. they probably meant that there was a mic failure a couple of times, but the performances were incredible, set up in a medley style.... they had to do so whatcha want twice, so that took a little bit of the energy from the crowd. everyone around us, black, white, yellow, purple, all the hip hop legends, EVERYONE was boppin their heads and feelin it. this one lady next to me turned and goes, "they white boys is ill!". when we went to smoke in the bathroom, there were some people with the wu-tang entourage in there who were saying that they thought the beastie boys were the second if not best performance. lots of love and respect in the place. i was more than satisfied

those guys sure can smoke a ton of weed!

Water under the bridge ......

this is the shit that miranamee should be taping and putting on youtube.....who wants to see 'sure shot' for the nth time when you could see adults wrestling over a beastie boys setlist.......

God-damn. Stole a setlist? Fucking hell. If I were the Beastie Boys I'd be starting to get worried about the messageboard contingent. What's next? Climbing up on stage during a performance? Show some fucking respect to the band, everyone. Don't put your feet on their furniture, especially in their own house.

come on, i'm trying here... i can't do anything about that so i'm doing what i can. he could've been the bigger person and let it go (i'm not trying to be a jerk about this.. i'm just sayin').

Hahaha...bigger person. Just so you know, he couldn't give two shits about it. He mentioned it to me once, the day after the show. He only came on here to look at this since I told him that the girlfriend of the guy who tried to fight him was here bragging about how she got a setlist. He's obviously over it, it's more that some of us who are his friends were upset he had to deal with that that night. Whatever, it's over, but I hope your boyfriend thinks twice next time...

Honestly, I keep thinking I need to let this sink in a little more before I reply to this thread. But I don't think all of what happened will ever seem tangible. I mean, from where I'm sitting at this very moment, it's like it was all a dream. It was one of the best times of my life. Therefore, I'ma babble about it for a moment...

I've forever dreamt of seeing the Beastie Boys live in their home town in a small venue. Never imagined it'd happen and it did. Waiting in line before the show that night was the most surreal thing ever ever... like when I met everyone from this place. Like meeting up with a bunch of good ol dear friends. I thought it may have been ackward, but hell no, it couldn't have been more delightful.

I was front and center for the show. God damn, I was running on no sleep, no food etc... once the Bboys took the stage, none of that ever mattered. There were a few moments during the show that stood out for me. 1) Opening with Slow and Low, I woke up the next morning with this song in my head and the biggest grin on my face 2) During 'No Sleep Til...' they missed the lyric 'Another plane another train another bottle in the brain...' and I had been rappin along and hit it. Yeah, thought I'z cool, know the lyrics better than they do. ok jk Seriously back to back Hello Brooklyn and then No Sleep! FUCKIN awesome and 3) high fiving Horovitz who'd been dancing only 2" from my face. Talk about nearly giving a girl a coronary!!!!!! Jeez *fans herself* lastly 4) when it came time to do the weave during Root Down, I don't know that they were really prepared to do it as the stage was tiny... but all us nerds know that moment where they should and errbody shouted, 'do the weave'! And they did it, like a shortened version. Awesome. (y)

After the show, I felt queezy, and was around the side of the building with some of you when all 3 MCs came walking down these stairs post-game style. I approached Yauch, shook his hand and proceeded to develop a nice case of derrrrr uhhhhhh, yeah. Anyways, yeah, talked to Yauch, or tried to for lack of a better word. Seeing them just chillin and hop in their respective vehicles, Kathleen was even there! I was just all -->

Other than the obvious Benefit show that was just most excellent were moments like catching a Yankee's game and a Massive Attack concert in the same day... meeting Cey Adams who turned out to be one of the coolest dudes ever... catchin a bite to eat at 'pauls boo-teek' ... seeing 59 Chrystie... catching the HHH screening... I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of other stuff ... just once again, meeting all you board peeps, I mean that from the bottom of my heart. :o

Gosh, now I get to look forward to the GvR show (hopefully I can score a ticket...) and Vegas Baby VEGASSSSSSSS :D

Thanks Paul. Unfortunately I can't create an account. I remember trying to register on this site in the past and I never had luck.

We are very sorry!

At the moment, there are at least 100,000 registered users at www.dimeadozen.org, the maximum allowed under DIME's current configuration.

However, free slots become available for new users daily as inactive accounts are deleted. When DIME has fewer than 100,000 registrants, new users can sign up. Please note that the statistics on DIME's web site are updated every ten minutes; therefore, you may see this message even if the web site reports fewer registered users than the maximum.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

Got it, it seems that my connection at home was blocking me from seeing all the seeders I think so if you can't see any seeders (I'm still seeding and have been all day) then you probably need to check your router and/or firewall settings and make sure that your torrent client can access all the ports it needs to.
