are you ever asked to elaborate on what's wrong with you?

No one around here has a chronic problem with missing work really and yet anytime someone calls in my boss practically requests a stool sample and or proof of vomit. one of the girls just called in in histerics because she was driving to work and she vomited all over her poor self. I relayed this to my boss and he said "well, What's wrong with her?" um.....hello numbskull did I not just say she threwup on herself? and he says I know but does she have the flu or something? Ummmm...I don't know dorkfaceand neither does she all she knows is she's covered in PUKE!.

I seriously feel like he's harrasing us when ever we get sick. I'm just going to start bringing doctors notes because this giving us the 3rd degree shit is just outrageous.

Nah. When I call into work, my message is exactly the same every time.

"Hey Gina it's Mike, I'm not feeling too good so I'm going to take the day. I'll probably be back tomorrow, but if not, I'll let you know in the morning. I'll see you tomorrow."

when Im actually sick and I call in, I never explain.

When Im just calling in cuz I dont feel like working, I attempt to elaborate and make up an excuse on the fly which is probably more suspicious than saying nothing at all.

I dont know how it works where you live but here in the UK, your boss isnt really supposed to do that. I manage a few people and what I have to do is ask them whats up and then dont follow it up until they come back to work and they have to either provide a note (if its over a week) or we have a chat where the employee writes down what the problem was. Its not checking up on them but its so that if the same person comes up with the same excuses on the same days of the week, the company knows they are takin the piss. But if someone rings in sick on a monday sayin they have been vomitim I know they been on a weekend bender but I cant challenge them about it and am not bothered either if they do, once in a while.

yeah this sucks. you can't just say I'm sick and let it be that. he won't let me off the phone til I give some sort of explanation. unfortunately since I'm sorta like the office manager, when I have to call in I can only call into my boss not anyone else. I really don't like having to explain that I have the shits or that I've vomiting or that I have a really embarasing boil on my ass.

so I'll just put this on my list and reason 3467 why I need to get my ass in gear and look for a different job.

I bet he thinks less about this than you do.
