This has been asked so, so many times, even I got a slayting for this: A brass monkey is not only a drink, but: Back in the 18th century when ships etc used to line up there cannon balls, they used to shape them in a triangle on plakes of wood....that used to be called a "Brass Monkey"...

Tis also a euthamism for being bloody cold, "ee, it could freeze the nuts off a brass monkey".
