I can't decide between Biggie and Jay-Z. I voted Jay-Z cuz he's a shrewd businessman and seems like quite a nice guy on top of it.

I was thinking of putting Guru up there but I think him and the others you named haven't really got as much in terms of unique style as the ones in the poll... plus I just don't really like KRS-One.

Gotta be rakim, just had a great sound to his voice with whatever emotion he was feelin. Sounds a bit poncey that but its true. There is no way imo that Shakur should be on that list. Never thought he was much cop. Should be q tip in his place

I respect most of the rappers on that list but if I could only listen to one of them it would definitely be Biggie.

Rakim was/is too one-dimensional to be the best ever. At one point he was definitely the greatest, though. Had he not continued to make albums past 1992, I would say his legacy would have remained thoroughly intact. But he kinda tainted that shit with mediocre solo output, cheesy commercials for gold fronts, Lugz ads and rocking pleather at the last Hip Hop Honors.

Jay's been the most diverse and consistent. Probably him or BIG, I guess.

No, that's Otis.
And except for Rakim, this thread could well be named "Most overrated rapper". I'd say fattie is the most overweight then.

Biggie >>> Rakim. For a time Rakim was king, but that's already been touched upon. You're over-rating Rakim if you count anything past 92 (tops).

The best rapper is Percee P, in my feeble mind. But I haven't listened to hiphop in awhile (jpop has taken over my mind) so what do I know.

Everyone who said their favourite rapper isn't on the list, feel free to name them. I already made a disclaimer about little girls crying over the poll not being right for them, anyway.

Little girls put Eminem on best rapper polls. True story.

Yeah but I do it for different reasons. He is (was) one of the most talented MCs, that's just a fact.

Don't hate cuz he's white.

No no no. I would never hate because someone is white. But really, how can you not have Redman on there? He was more talented than Eminem ever was.

Lex Diamonds

I dunno, I just don't think the grimy shit like Wu-Tang and Redman and that requires as much lyrical skill, it's more about the attitude and sentiment.

And you're like the only person to nominate Redman anyway, so I stand by the poll accounts for most people's tastes.

this is hard for me:D

rakim got that nice smooth voice i love & his ryhmes are nice as hell i agree he was king back in the day

Nas i don't listen to much only a couple of songs & the lyrics were pretty good on those songs so he is definitley on my To Listen To List

Jay-Z i love Jigga's voice & the uh he does in almost al his songs & also has the creative ryhmes

Biggie was great he could rock great freestyles & his heavy breathing voice kinda made me listen to him more carefully (lol)

Pac was very deep in my opinion i can relate to some of his songs & he was a great songwriter

Eminem (was) great (whats that shit with Akon wtf happened Em?) after listening to the Marshal Mather LP i was stunned & hooked to it all summer.

all of these rapper have or had creative rhymes & nice flow so its hard for me to choose

how about Immortal Technique? he isn't my favorite rapper but i still think he deserves a nomination for this poll

Lex Diamonds

Biggie punked out to him ...with that Goin To Cali track off Life After Death (which also is a Pac wannabe record title)
I can see what you're saying with the other shit but I'd have to disagree with that... it was just a continuation of the theme from "Ready To Die". And just cuz Pac did shit before Biggie don't mean Biggie got it from him.

And all the haters read this and tell me Eminem was never one of the sickest writers:

I'll have you taken back to Christ when you're sacrificed
The way you hacked and sliced when I tear your back with knifes
Jacking life's of MC's, now I'm set to launch a plan
For blowing up the stage with illegal contraband
I stomped your man so unless you want what he got
You better set the mic down, I'm steaming like a teapot
I'll make the tea hot, people get in my face and ask
If I wanna battle, then I chase them in a Jason mask
It's an amazing task to battle with success
I never gave a fuck, now I give a fuck less
And in a slug fest I get physical like physicians
Invisible like magicians with mystical mic traditions
Wicked wizardry, like a sorcerer and no remorse for ya
When I torture ya throughout the course of my orchestra
So feel the force of my spiritual images
Slicing up an enemy's appendages till he hemorrhages
My skin itches every time a rapper recites
And when he's through with his verse, I'm all covered in flea bites
You wanna see fights I got a match for you
You couldn't flip shit playing in toilets with a spatula

He's also got a good emotion/attitude to his voice. He's most probably in my top 5.

Personally I don't really like Eminem but even I will give him props, he has great wordplay and has had some good stuff. Even I love the line "You're dating dynamite and couldn't go out with a bang."
