View Full Version : Do you have a 'gay' band?

Kid Presentable
10-12-2006, 11:57 PM
Not using homsexuality in a derogative sense at all, but rather a band that would make people question your sexuality.

The phenomenon presented itself when a friend of mine who was very in the know about dub, funk and such confessed that he liked the Killers. Nay, he said "Their first album is like a greatest hits package. Every song is like a classic.". What I have done by outlining his deep love of things Dub and Funk is pointing out the dichotomy of his tastes.

And I thought about it, and probably the gayest thing I enjoy is the Dandy Warhols.

You?

i enjoy love shack and rock lobster by the b-52s way more than normal people should. if i had a female friend, i'd really like to do love shack at a karaoke bar or something, i think i can do a pretty good impersonation of the guy's voice. no way i'm doing the female vocals though, that's just gay

jamiroquai's pretty gay but i'll add him to my list too.

so would it be appropriate to sum up this thread as bands that you like to listen to, but only when you're sure nobody's watching?

i thought of some i wanted to add to the list earlier today but i forgot them already. i think she wants revenge was one. i don't think queen's gay at all (not talkin bout sexuality), they're pretty well respected, aren't they? but if they aren't, then yeah, queen

scissor sisters, that's another one.

You know... I never had either... I'm telling you, when I went to see her live, I've never seen more lesbians in an audience before. But srsly, it's kind of like, come on, just let her rock without being swarmed by a single fan demographic, it weirded me out. Meh, it's inevitable I guess. I just think for whatever reason, a strong rocking female just draws the attention of lesbians. I guess for obvious reasons. Am I making any sense? I'm working on my 3rd glass of vino.

Albums I own that make my buddies worry ;) :

Spandau Ballet's True. Ultra-glitzy-mushy-love-pop.

Abba's greatest hits CD (anyway I'm one quarter Swedish so I think I'm suppsoed to own at least one of their albums :) ). To be honest though, I always skip over the track called "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)", plus the music is very disco-like. It's just.........too much. :o

Sarah McLachlin's Fumbling Towards Ecstacy (http://www.amazon.com/Fumbling-Towards-Ecstasy-Sarah-McLachlan/dp/B000002VN7/sr=1-1/qid=1161069080/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-8330650-2076140?ie=UTF8&s=music). This is a seriously good album - very somber but excellent music and lyrics. Two of the tracks helped me to feel better during an incredibly bad time in my life ten years ago: some feelings/situations are not gender specific. FYI: on my CD at least (bought in 1996) there is a very pretty acoustic version of "Possession" hidden about 30 seconds after the last track ends.

What does it mean if a guy listens to them?

What does it mean if a guy in general listens to them, or what does it mean if YOU listen to them? There's a different answer for each query. :p
