Thanks for that. I'm pretty interested in the first cut with Salaam Remi and that Damien Marley one. Dre could go either way.

Between this, new Clipse and Jay-Z I'm going to have a good time album shopping. I'm thinking about getting the Celph Titled Box-set, as well.

4th quarter is always where it's at.

I sense a few stinkers on Nas' album already, though. Mostly with the Scott Storch joints.

I can't tell one Storch from another usually. Ice Cube did a good job on Why we Thugs.

Also, earlier this year there were rumours Nas would feature on an LP exclusively produced by DJ Premier.

Although one Premier track has been confirmed for his upcoming Hip-Hop Is Dead…The N album, a proper collaboration between the two legends is still on the cards.

"We did one song for the [new] album but we haven't mixed it yet. [Nas] told me he wants the next album to be the one that we finally do, just me and him, all the way through - just a Premier and Nas album. We'll see if that goes down," he said.

Hip-Hop Is Dead…The N has been rescheduled to a December 19th release date.

Speaking on the release date, DJ Premier said, “I think he should wait 'til next year, personally, to really make a classic bomb. He can do it but I think he needs more time. Whatever he chooses, he's got my support."

it'll be like every other nas album that has come out where he promises that hes "stillmatic ya'll" and its some "classic shit" and there will be two to five bangers and a bunch of trash.

Whilst I download "The N", let me ponder on the idea that "Hip-Hop is Dead" to me sounds like a mix between "Thiefs Theme", "Made You Look" and "The Cross". Its clearly an attempt to channel two of his better recieved recent songs (the first) two, in that he re-uses the samples. very odd.

Yeah, the video is pretty good. The song is average, though. Nas just spits like Black Thought, and Thought is only good half the time.

Plus, Hip-Hop is really dead if you have to convince yourself that this is good. Think about people you'd love to expose to rap. I liked the idea of what you would show aliens if they landed. Treat people who don't really dig hip-hop like aliens, and all they'll hear is Nas doing a 'My Humps'. It's catchy, bubbly shit. But that's all.

that was on some epic shit right there, gotta say seein UGK get love like they did when they did Big Pimpin (an amazing track and video) was on some goosebump level. Always liked UGK stuff (even though I need to get a damn CD of theirs shit) espcially their southern pimpin type of music from the early days.

I'm still not crazy about this song, but here's a good quality (no mixtape dj) version of Where Are They Now? (http://www.zshare.net/audio/nas-where-are-they-now-mp3-mtn.html)

He's doing too many songs with beats using recycled/popular breaks.

Between Hip Hop Is Dead, QB True G and Black Republicans, I think this album is already making up for the treachery that was Streets Disciple. Then again, even that album had about 3 heaters on it.

This (http://www.spinemagazine.com/music/december/nas/lifesgonelow.mp3) isn't going to be on the album, but I'm hating every single person involved with it's creation at the moment. I flipped the exact same sample about six months ago, only I didn't rape it from top to bottom. Anyway, fuck them both for making this sloppy shit and wasting a hot sample. Nas' just falling asleep on this one to top it all off.

I'm not bitter. Just sayin, it's garbage. Remember where you heard it first!

Who Killed It is amazing. The narrative, the old-skool throwback beat, Nas' old man voice, it's a real classic. Wonderful track. (y)

Maybe you need to hear the rest.

Black Republican is still the high point for me. Maybe Nas has some leftovers from the album he can release on another album a couple of months from now. He can call it More Hip Hop Is Dead...The N

He could call it "We're moving through the grieving process for Hip-Hop".

I do need to hear the rest. I'm a horrid little prick about established artists, and hold them to ridiculous standards set early in their careers.

how i feel about it, song by song, out of 5 stars

1.money over bullshit: **** solid, but not a GREAT start

2.you cant kill me **** i like the beat alot

3.carry on tradition ***1/2

4.where are they now ***1/2 a little throw-back for my tastes, but its fine. the musical break in between verses is cool

5.hip hop is dead ****1/2 so sue me. better use of sample than thiefs theme

6.who killed it ** goofy goofy goofy

7.Black Republican ***** i honestly didnt like the beat at first. i admit i was stupid. what a song.

8.not going back ***1/2

9.still dreaming **** i HATE kanye's verse and his stupid stupid irritating voice, but kudos to him for the beat. dig it alot.

10.hold down the block ****

11.blunt ashes **1/2 knocked off a whole star because honestly i hate his flow on this track. the beat's cool until the chorus, and then it gets pretty darn gay. the whole thing sounds like ton loc having a wet dream.

12.let there be light **1/2 "wooooaaaoooaoaaahhhhhh" typical kanye psuedo-uplifting-spiritual bullshit

13.play on playa *** i think this is the first and last time i'll ever say this, but de la soul used this beat 10000 times better than this. because of that i want to give it one star, but it's actually a decent song. ugh. de la did it so much more justice, not surprising, since technically storch is only good at being catchy, and not being musical. man, i hate this song, but i shouldn't.

14.can't forget you ****1/2 haha i probably shouldnt like it, but i really like this an awful lot. great. actually its probably my favorite track on this album so far (only two left to go)

15.hustlers **** pretty good, didnt get much of an impression besides a generally pleasant one.

16.hope (accapella version) **** i don't know if this is what's on the album, but i dig.

Oh, I guess Nas is trying to sound like James Cagney or some character from an old gangster movie on Who Killed It.

He sounds like Adam Sandler, though. That shit's just ridiculous.

1.money over bullshit: **** I like it.

2.you cant kill me ** Meh.

3.carry on tradition ** Nothing special

4.where are they now ***1/2 I thought this shit sucked, but compared to the rest of the album, it's one of the better songs.

5.hip hop is dead **** Not anywhere as good a Thief's Theme, but solid.

6.who killed it * Bill Madison flow.

7.Black Republican ***** SICK

8.not going back ** yawn

9.still dreaming *** Beat's kinda okay. Overall, the song's okay.

10.hold down the block *** Nothing special.

11.blunt ashes ** Decent beat. But yeah, not feeling the Three 6 Mafia-styled amateur flow.

12.let there be light ** Unnecessary.

13.play on playa ** Not feeling it.

14.can't forget you ** I thought this was gonna be a banger when I heard the beat. Then 'Unforgetable' started playing and I was like, aw. Then I heard the hook and I was like, awforcryinoutloud.

15.hustlers ***** Banger. And I don't like Game at all, really. Dre didn't give Jay anything this hot.

16.hope (accapella version) *** Whatevaman. I guess I enjoyed it, but I'll probably never listen to it again.

I thought it was legal to link album downloads, but illegal to actually upload them yourself?

Oh well, whatever. Damn fascists.i'm not an expert on these issues but i do believe you're correct. the actual sharing as in uploading copyrighted material would be illegal as well as downloading shared material. posting links to downloads is as far as i know not illegal in most countries as they're just pointers to where you can "get illegal". that would be the reason for why torrent sites can't be closed down since they're just linking to downloads and are not hosting the actual files. though if we get a word from above to handle these issues we can't question it. it is definitely easier on our part to just not allow these type of links to be posted as it can still trouble the owners of a message board. it might be a bitch though for sure.
