me, i feel that the internet is just another forum of communication and social interaction. it's not "weird" at all that people, and we all know from various people's experiences here that it's been successful, meet online as it's just another avenue. an avenue that some people find more natural and easy as a way of speaking, listening, debating and meeting other people. so to people who say "it's just the internet" - nothing is ever just something, and who gives you the right to qualify whole bloody fields of communication like this, anyway?

but proposals - whaddya reckon? i think s'okay, but, um, of course it's not as preferable as a face to face private moment.

take a moment to read their forum - i find it really interesting how other board communities interact! tis strange. but the actual proposal itself? slightly odd - all the referrals to ex-board-girlfriends and, um, suicide and "Love is the feeling I feel when I see you sign on" is a bit, well.. curious. i don't know if i'm down with that, dawg.

i'm still only on the first page but i wonder if the gal's gonna say yes. my guess is NO.

i feel kinda sorry for these kids. first, i remember what it was like to have a very sweet thread made about me by dr deaf (i think i love her thread) and then have some people shit all over it when they found out (1) that it was about me and (2) we hadn't met in person yet so we couldn't really "know" whether we loved each other. yes, when you post a thread, anyone can make any comment they want, but i wish the negative comments had been in a new and different thread (perhaps the title could have been "you can't possibly love her yet"). but there are many levels of love. love grows daily in a relationship. the dr and i spoke on the phone daily, for up to 6 hours a day sometimes, until the day we met in person. i knew, he knew, and yes, meeting took it to another level. it could very well be the same for these kids.

second, they have no idea of the hardships of moving to another country because they're young and they don't know everything they have to consider and think through with their planning. i thought the dr and i had planned everything we possibly could with the knowledge we had, and still, there were things we learned that caused delays (like a whole different set of forms that cost a lot of money), and that made it harder for the dr because he was almost a prisoner of circumstances in the apartment when he wasn't allowed to work here. canada to america isn't that far, i can't imagine the hardship of america to england or vice versa.

i made the canadian comment as a joke, seeing as, you know, canadians are always shat upon in the media and what not and it was a good example. blame canada an' all that.
