HONOLULU (AP) -- A strong earthquake shook Hawaii early Sunday, causing a landslide that blocked a major highway on Hawaii Island and knocking out power across the state, authorities said.
The state Civil Defense had unconfirmed reports of injuries, but communication problems prevented more definite reports. People were also trapped in elevators in Oahu, authorities said.

Today was a bizarre day. I woke up this morning thinking one of my roommates was trying to be funny by shaking my bed, trying to wake me up early on a Sunday morning. In my half-asleep consciousness did I realize that was not the case.
Our power went out soon after the second tremor a little at around 7:30 am, and upper Honolulu is still without power. (It's past midnight, early Monday morning.) In the meantime, I'm staying at a friend's apartment in the downtown area (where power's been restored).
We walked around Waikiki earlier, hoping there would be restaurants open (we figured they'd be on generators), but most were closed. We didn't feel like waiting in line and spending $20 each for a buffet at the only place we could find open, so we gave up and went to the bus stop to go home. While waiting for the bus, the power came back on there, and you could literally hear tons of people cheering from their hotel rooms. Quite an experience.
They're now saying it's a 6.6 magnitude quake.
Here's what other Hawaii residents had to say. (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=10657)
