It's distressing to me. I hate when there's a high publicity case where a prosecutor is completely corrupt or inept. It makes people think that the whole system is that way. It makes people think that rape victims make these things up in other cases, and that's the last thing they need. Shame on everyone involved on the prosecution side.
And shame on the college for letting their sports stars act like animals. Even if they're not guilty of any crime, it's disgusting that the neighborhood had to put up with all the nonsense that's traditionally gone down in and around that house.

I would sound like an asshole too if I was wrongly accused of something as heinous as this.
They might be assholes but their lives are in ruins and thats a fucked up thing to happen if they didn't do it.

I'm curious to know:
If this woman's case falls apart completely the way it looks, does she get prosecuted for a hate crime? Since these twenty white boy -- I'm sorry! THREE! THREE BUT THEY WERE WHITE -- boys were accused?
Just curious.

ohhh please.
They are only 20 something years old. They are white. And I know at least one of them has money in the family.
I don't think they will really have it bad at all when/if they get off.

That's pretty shallow thinking.

Breaking news on CNN:
The Associated Press reports a defense attorney says prosecutors have dismissed rape charges against three Duke University lacrosse players, but charges of kidnapping and sexual offense still stand.

From Sports Illustrated:
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Prosecutors dropped rape charges Friday against three Duke University lacrosse players accused of attacking a stripper at a team party, but the three still face kidnapping and sexual offense charges, a defense attorney said.
Joseph Cheshire and attorneys for the other players have said for months the woman told several different versions of the alleged assault.
Cheshire said Friday that the accuser now says she does not know if she was penetrated, which he said led District Attorney Mike Nifong to dismiss the rape charges.
Nifong did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
The accuser, a 28-year-old student at North Carolina Central University, has said three men raped her in a bathroom at a March 13 team party where she was hired to perform as a stripper.
The players -- Dave Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann -- all say they are innocent. Their attorneys have consistently said no sex occurred at the party and have cited a lack of DNA evidence in the case as proof of their clients' innocence.
"It's highly coincidental," Cheshire said, that the charges are being dropped a week after the director of a private DNA testing lab acknowledged that he initially, with Nifong's knowledge, withheld from the defense test results showing none of the players' DNA was found on or in the accuser's body.
Testing also showed that genetic material from several males was found in her undergarments and body.

But the defense motion said the accuser's cell phone records show that she was on her phone during part of the time she now says she was attacked.

From what the pieces look like, she was abused earlier in the day, showed up at the fraternity drunk, and decided to place the blame on the rich, white boys. Pretty heinous.
Yeah, I can't say these guys are above the law for hiring strippers in the first place, but the girl's story has been falling apart from day one.

I live 45 min from Durham (where this all took place) and the plaintiff looks sketchy at best. She was back at work (stripping) like 1 week after it happened. Ultimatly, she said she couldn't be sure the guys she accussed did anything to her. The DA is a complete media whore and it got the best of him on this one.
