Oh, man.

Usually the still from The Machinist you see is the mirror one. I'd never seen this one:

Right before Batman Begins, Bale had a role in a movie called The Machinist, and he crash-dieted to lose 60-some pounds for the role. Then bulked up in, like, three or four months to play Batman.

Supposedly. That's really really fast.

He had an apple and a can of tuna each day. Nothing else. Vitamins and proteins there you have it.

I went to school with him. He was a prick, especially after he'd done Empire Of The Sun, and still seems to be, with his fucking American accent.

My mate takes great pleasure in telling people that he's beaten the shit out of Batman.

That's a shame. He's been really good in some roles.

I really like Christian Bale...I hate to hear that he's a jerk in real life. Then again, people said Cobain was a jerk in highschool, and I still listen to his music.

I remember seeing The Machinist and just thinking how crazy it was that he was willing to do that to himself for the role.

just because someone was a jerk in "highschool"... does it mean they're a jerk for life? and starring in a spielberg film at 12 might quite obviously make you a little jerk like.

i'm sure everyone's a jerk at some point.

i'm not a big fan of his anyway -- he always seems to take himself a little too seriously, especially as batman.
:p  :o

That guy is nuts. I mean, its one thing to be commited to your craft, but to lose that much weight for a role.........he's got a screw lose.

girls I wouldn't get too excited about Bale, any relationship would just end with a chainsaw dropped on you from six floors up.

^That's one of the best reasons to watch it. The storyline...meh it wasn't bad. But just to watch it and then pop in Batman Begins....damn.

Watching that movie was like reading Crime & Punishment. The story sort of drags, gets confusing, you're not really sure what's all in the protagonists head and what isn't. Some people call that brilliant and some call it boring...I'm somewhere inbetween (but I hated Crime & Punishment).
