apparently my body does not at all respond the same to sake as it does to other alcohols. I drank as much sake as I would any other drink last night during happy hour.

I was paying for it from about 10pm until 9am this morning. I haven't been sick like that since the time I first started drinking, period.

Good christ.

It doesnt agree with me either, always makes me barf...

And I have a good stomach for most alcohols.

yeah what the fuck? I can pound back whiskey like it's water but then the sake just kicked my ass.

It got to the point that it was stomach acid, dry heaving, then when I drank any water it'd throw it right back up. God damn.

...me, neither, but to opposite affect: the buzz disappears like that *snaps fingers*.

I never really plunged into sake the way I did beer or wine, figuring out what's "good" sake, etc. I wonder if you got hold of some bad stuff?

Note to self: don't drink sake.

Kind of funny, because isn't "sake" also the Japanese word for salmon?

See -- that can get confusing.

See, when people say they drank like 20+ malt beverages or beers or whatever, that just makes me wonder how big their freakin' bladders are. Or if you have to run to the can like every 4 minutes. Because if that was me, I'd be in the ladies room all night pretty much.

I find that Sake alone is usually pretty docile but with those big bottles of Kirin as chaser...well.....that's danger, Wil.....Sake martini's as well....my condolences

It was stretch from about 7pm to around 1am, but we were doing shooters as well. I spent a lot of time in the bathroom that night:o

I loooove sake. If you ever have a chance to go to a decent sake bar and compare different kinds, do it. The variety is amazing. But good sake costs good money; I'm willing to wager the stuff that did you in was relatively cheapish, and likely had a lot of impurities, which is why it's hit you so hard.

See -- that's kind of what I'm thinking. I'm sure that we wind up with the MGDs of sake.

Any brands you suggest, Peachy?

Common misconception. Sake is not neccessarily to be served warm. Depends on the variety. Chilled sake on a hot day is a brilliant thing.

No special recommendations a-z, mostly because I can never remember the names. But if you go to a good Japanese restaurant and want to try something new, ask the staff for a recommendation. They will be able to guide you through your options, i.e. hot or cold, dry or sweet, etc.

I drink sake EVERYYY WEEKEND (well, recently) and it's strange, but I don't get or feel the least bit ill. Liquor, wine.. Even pussy drinks -- I'm over the toilet bowl. But sake just makes me very, very warm and happy inside... And sleepy. :p

I love Sake. In Japan I got so drunk on Sake one time I still can't recall many details of the evening. Sake hangovers suuuckkkkkkkk and last all the next day.

Shit strikes you like a goddamn secret ninja, we mixed warm varieties, then the bosses started to order the expensive chilled stuff, moved to plum wine, then to this stuff that is some kind of everclear 100 proof liquor. I recall Bongo Drums being played at one point, and a tiny bathroom, then it's foggy. Shout out to my homies in Shinjuku!

One time I was at work and a co-worker came to the restaurant with a big bottle of sake. We warmed it in the pasta cooker and then three of us set up about forty little porcelain cups (the kind we served sauces in) and knocked the whole thing down, back-to-back, in about three minutes. I don't remember the last half of my shift, or how I got home several hours later, or why I ever drank again after that, but boy was it a good time!

I don't mind sake a bit and when I eat Japanese food, I usually start with two bottles of Saparo and when my food comes I then order a bottle of Sake to drink with my food.

I'll go with warm sake to go with my tepenyaki (I know I spelled, bitches) and I'll go with chilled sake if I'm having sushi and sashimi.

Kirin, yeah.

I was out of it until around 4pm today. Good times. I had two bottles of sake and two big bottles of kirin.

Is that the stuff in the little bowl that you drink despite the fact bowls are for eating?

goodness. i want to marry you.

i <3 plum wine!
i do not <3 sake. at all. yuck. i don't care if it's 'uncultured' to say so.

really, really dirt cheap cider and white wine (not together, mind) will get my very, very nastily drunk and most likely turn me blind.
