it's true. :(
I know it's not exactly cool, but I really still like them. I like the new songs and everything. AND I THINK THAT YIELD IS A GOOD ALBUM ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT VERY POPULAR.

Explain why liking Pearl Jam isn't "cool"
Edit: "Yield" was pretty good. I even liked "Vitology." Yes, that's right! I said it.
hey you know what else isn't very popular now, is you, because you like pearl jam lol

this girl I work with is friends with a girl who's friends with a guy in My Morning Jacket and they were going to a show awhile back because they had free tickets and backstage passes or something. the day of the show she realizes that they're opening for Pearl Jam. and she was like, "ahh! this is going to be so annoying!" and I said, "where is it?" and she said, "the united center" (where the bulls play) and I was like, "ha ha, well of course!" and then I said, "OMG, YOU'RE TOTALLY GONNA HANG OUT WITH PEARL JAM! HA HA, DORK!" and she said, "ew" and I said, "ha ha, you love Pearl Jam", and she was like, "no I don't!" and I said, "I do" :(

i love pearl jam.
i've seen them in concert at least 4 times.
the last time i saw them was at the house of blues in orlando for a private show (meaning tickets were not available to the general public, not that i hired them to play for me and my friends). the private show had a live webcast on real network or whatever. i can't remember whether that was march of 02, 03 or 04. i wanna say 03.
hey bob, aren't you supposed to be reading some lawyer stuff or something?

oh god, i just got finished reading an absolute ASSload of lawyer stuff. i'm getting better about reading and not wasting my time on here (no offense to you guys of course), but i do need to come on here to flush my brain now and then
it was so terrible today though. this one class, it's killing me. we get a syllabus, and we get an assignment in the syllabus and it says "read pages 234-249, do practice exercise 23" or something. ok, fine, 16 pages, i can handle that (although 16 pages of the class that teaches you this (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=72272) can be VERY tiresome by itself). but that's not all! the class is about the rules of civil procedure, so as you read, you're asked to refer to the rules periodically, each assignment probably has i dunno 2-3 rules involved in it, sometimes more. so in addition to the 16 pages, you have to read the rules, which all read fucking exactly like that thread, so that sucks.
and then the practice exercise has you flipping to the back of the book to look through case files and apply what you're learned to hypothetical fact patterns. so you have to read through like maybe another 10-15 pages of memos and and motions and depositions and shit on top of the rules and the 16 shitty pages. you never know how much reading you're going to have to do up front, it just goes on and on and on. it's like hazing, only you get a grade
anyway pearl jam sucks

I'm a big fan of the Pearl Jam, they have a lot of talent and are fun as all get out to see live. They have an excellent website and they sell all their bootlegs on it. For a spell I was in the PJ Ten Club and managed to wrangle out some excellent deals, private shows, limited pressings of 45's etc, etc.
Mike McCready the guitar player is awesome in all respects, to actually see him play guitar is to see one of the finest guitar players currently alive. I still don't understand all the Pearl Jam hate. Vitalogy is a kick ass album. Pearl Jam has donated much money and time to many causes here in the NW.
Of course I'm all full of moss and grunge living in Seattle all my life. I'm a Loser.

Pearl Jam was the first concert I ever went to. I was about 15 or 16. Loved it. I still listen to them occasionally, Yellow Ledbetter, to be specific. I've got no hate for pearl jam at all.

Pearl Jam is the best live band I have ever seen...and I've seen a bunch! They are a) fantastic musicians b) incredibly down to earth people who do good for dozens of charitable causes spending huge percentages of their own money while promoting causes and issues with the public c) put out some of the best music of "our" genereation and d) have the best live show i've seen. They play a vastly different set every night from a catalog of 250+ songs (I've seen them 9 times and no set was even close to the others.)
Even if you aren't a fan, you should see them live because they put on a hell of a show without any theatrics...just pure, quality music!!

I've tried listening to Pearl Jam, but I can't get past Vedder's voice. That throaty, histrionic style drives me nuts; it's so affected. (n)

Based on what?
The fact that they are totally accessible to fans, they spend millions of their own dollars to promote great causes, they put on inexpensive shows that are absolutely phenomenal that don't rely on anything other then their music (no fancy stages, lights, effects, screens...). Perhaps it is their politics? I know a lot of people don't like their politics...maybe that's it because I'm not sure where you are coming from.

It's funny to watch clips of the old concerts on youtube and see Eddie getting booed for making statements against the Iraq war -- BACK WHEN 90% OF AMERICANS WERE BEHIND THE PRESIDENT. And the thing was that Eddie handled the crowd really well. He knew what was coming and he explained his position and played music to a crowd that was openly hostle. You've got to admire that.
I've never seen a Pearl Jam show where the band didn't seem completely present. They give value for the money.
