the girl who was allergic to them is actually moving out now. I used to have a black cat as a kid up until a few years ago. I really want another black cat. It'd make me so happy.
Is that corny?

No that's not corny. I miss my cat so much! She's coming to visit me for Veteran's Day though, YAY! I just have to be super careful so she won't escape my apartment because I live next to a very large road intersection (accidents make for weekly watching fun).
Do it man! People who say money can't buy happiness have obviously never purchased a kitten.
Yesterday, my wife took one of our cats (Porter) to the vet. He has been losing weight yet he is ravenously hungry. They just called after the blood tests. He has cancer....of what we do not know. It just seems too expensive and invasive to find out. He is 13 and has been a good cat. The vet thinks he also has a kidney failing. We will put him on the medication and hope that the kidney is the result of the irregular blood tests. She did say that it might help but if it does not he has about 2 months to live.
Here is the poor little dude.

ahaha@chew
and yeah. My black cat Noche was such a great cat. She had a personality on her, sometimes she was a little brat but I still loved her anyway.
Now I have to start searching :) maybe that's what I'll ask for on my birthday next month.

OMG, Yeti! That's what happened to my childhood cat. They said that she had a hyperactive thyroid and that's why she kept eating and eating and losing weight, so we put her on meds that allowed her to keep some of her weight on (about an extra pound).
The stress of my parents' moving and constantly taking her to my condo when they showed the house took its toll on her. We took her to the ER one day due to erratic breathing and they said she had tumors on her liver, as well as 6 tumors in her lungs, which was making it hard for her to breathe. It all came out at once, she couldn't fight it anymore. She was 16 years old, so she lived a long life. But goddamn I loved that cat (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/QueenAdrock1/pets/nikki.jpg).
Agggh now I'm choked up. :(
I'm really sorry Mr. Yeti. :((n)

When I was really little, I guess we had the screen in my window because it was kinda warm outside. My mom came in during the middle of the night to shut my window, and at that point, our cat sprinted from outta nowhere and took a swandive out of my window into the bush below. I guess the son of a bitch was suicidal, and I haven't had a cat since.
True story.
I appreciate your thoughts and concern. My wife had Porter before we met. We hope he will not be in pain yet he has gone from about 13 pounds to 7. When he jumps on my lap I can feel every bone of his spine. I wish it was a hyper thyroid. The iodine radiation treatment for cats has about a 99% success rate. My black cat Grendel had a bad hyper thyroid condition. I took her down to Miami when I live in West Palm Florida. They gave her the radiation treatment and kept her for 3 days. She is perfect now and I am glad I went with the treatment. Her blood counts were all over the place and her liver was failing. I researched the treatment and found that it would remedy all her ailments. I dropped nearly 1 grand but it was money well spent. She is my girl. My Dad still thinks I am crazy but that is a given.
I would spend the money to save Porter but the vet thinks it would be in vain. I have been researching cancer in cats and it is really untreatable. My in-laws have a 16 year old cat with cancer and he has beaten the odds. They said he would not live more than a couple months and he is still kickin a year after the diagnosis.
I never really had cats and did not think much of the finicky felines.......until I took Grendel out of my alley and gave her a home. Cats are great pets with little trouble...other than cleaning the cat boxes ...the random furrball puke.....scratching issues....but pets are worth the trouble.
I will just treat Porter like a king.....maybe I will send him to Hawaii for some sun and fun.
Sorry to hear about Porter. Pamper the fuck out that cat.
Yeah, cats rock.
I'm going to take some time out to tell you about my Bhudda.
My sister and I took home a little kitten about 11 years ago from a pet store. She was the runt no one wanted. She was sooo fucking tiny. She fit in the palm of my hand and I have small hands. So we just had to save her.
I had this little rope that she used to carry around the house with her. At night, she would jump on my bed with the rope in her mouth and drop it on my face. I would throw the rope on the ground and tell her to let me sleep, but she would just pick up the rope and bring it back to me. and this would go on about 5 times until i kicked her out of my room and put her in my sister's or my parent's room.
One morning I was eating cereal reading the paper and she jumped up on the table and tried to get a little drink of the milk in my bowl. I pushed her away and she would come back trying again. I must have done that like 10 times and finally she came up to the bowl, splashed it so the milk flew all over me, and she stopped, looked at me, and then just strutted away. Fucking kick ass. I was so angry but couldn't help laughing.
She also used to hang out with the neighborhood skunk. Just running around outside chilling with eachother and what not. Craziness.
She was about a year old when she died. They never really figured out what it was. Something with her kidneys not working properly. It tore me up. I think that was the first time any of my friends ever saw me cry. She was the first pet I had die on me.
A skunk....Ha!
My black cat Grendel was nose to nose with a huge raven once. I still wish I has my camera. It was an awesome site and would have been a great photo. A black bird and a black cat just staring at each other.
I had a friend with a cat he called kitty 2000. It was a crazy looking kitten. It had really brittle bones. It jumped off the couch a broke 3 legs. The vet fixed the legs but my friend could not pay the bill. They let him slide and kept the cat at the clinic for study. He was a true oddity and could have been an alien cat.

Well, I wonder now if it was actually a hyperthyroid or if it was the cancer. Because same deal - my cat was about 12 pounds and before she died she was about 6.25. She was pretty chunky when she was younger, that's why we got our second kitty. To chase her around and get her to lose some weight. Then my first kitty lost all that weight and my second kitty got obese. Oh sweet irony.
We could have given her chemo but it was $1500 and it may have been only another few months to live after that. She was old and I wanted her to go peacefully and without pain. She wasn't hurting from the cancer yet, but she was struggling with her breathing. She was still *okay* when we put her under. She would have turned and had a sharp downward spiral...I'd never want her to plummet into that kind of pain, and wanted her to end on a happy note so I put her to sleep before she could suffer.
Everytime I see Black Cat I think of this video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_1MM5R0F40)
Black cats are pretty kickass to own. Depends on the neighborhood you're in though. If you let it outside some superstitious pricks might try to kill it or some goth kids will steal it or something. So I'd keep it in the house. ...you wanna know where your pussy is at all times! AHAHAHA!
Sorry. :o
