I decided earlier today that it'd be fun to try to have some kind of alter-ego to be when I went out different places. So...I started to consider how to be different things that I'm not.

Like...I could wear polo shirts and flip flops, maybe sport glasses. Say things like "You betcher ass!" and wear Axe.

But - I'd be disgusted with myself. Even if it's just an alter-ego! Nevertheless, the idea still appeals to me. Does anyone have an alter-ego (board aliases don't count)?

ooh - look at this - List of Alter-Egos in real life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alter_ego#List_of_alter_egos_in_real_life)

I have considered bringing this successful, charming, suit&tie yuppie to work but once I look in the mirror I just have to strangle him.
Goin out it's harsh to pick up the ladies cause they see right through you. You glass, homeboy, nowhutImsayin? Some of them might go along with your little charade but that will give YOU a queasy feeling...

Where I used to work so many people thought I was from New Zealand in the end I stopped correcting them. Even people I had told the truth forgot or weren't listening.
Nivvie the Kiwi had some laughs. Then some new people came in and started asking her where abouts in South Africa she was from, which was just silly.

my housemate has a 'club name' that she tells people when she's out 'clubbin'
does that count.

I used to know a nurse who had a 'fairy' name. Her and other fairies used to hit the pubs with trays of fairy cakes and wings on.
This is what happens to long-term single but straight women. Or unhappily married ones.

Either lots of cats, or imaginary lives.

Like a cup cake, but delicate and lady-like.

how is a cupcake in any way masculine (which your statement about ladylike fairycakes seem to imply by default)

I don't think your alter ego necessarily has to be your opposite like Bizzaro Superman. I think it can be everything you wish you were or something like in Fight Club

When I think of American cup cakes, they are quite big, heavily iced, etc, unlike a fairy cake, but I didn't mean to imply this was a masculine thing.

However, I have noticed the men in my life are more likely to reach for a big chunk of fruitcake or something along those lines, rather than a delicate Viennese Whirl when in polite company, but that could be a greed thing....hell, I don't know.
But now I want cake.
Dammit.

I'm thinking I need to come up with a cool name too...like punk rock stage name sort of cool. Then again, if I come up with something that awesome, I'll have to have a good character to go with it.

men totally love the fruitcake. i hate traditional wedding cake and christmas cake and gah, yacky.
they also love the pie. especially cherry pie. i've convinced my boyfriend that he likes apple pie cos i assumed it for so long he's just like "oh yeah i just loooovvveee applie pie mmm mmm delish - i'm meant to, right, claire?"
i'm not too much a fan of fruit-based desserts. what's the bloody point?
oh yeah, men like trifle too when they're feeling fancy.

about alter egos, my flatmate (she's an actress which explains it) always puts them on when she's doing shitty call centre jobs between theatre work. on the phone she'll try different accents. she'll lie all the time. she convinced a person at work that everyone from the 70s who got tongue piercing - all their tongues are falling out now and stuff. this girl had a tongue piercing. she was very scared that in 20 years the same would happen to her. (she told her in the end she was just 'pretending' all that day so dinnae worry) she convinced my other flatmate's boyfriend that you could get a mobile phone signal on the moon. she almost convinced me the other day that jay from america's next top model has a wife and children.

i guess she is more, um, 'creative lying' than alter-ego but whatevs.

Something you can say that that person did, and have it be both you....and NOT you.

In fightclub brad pitt and edward norton are both called tyler durton cause they're the same person.
I think you need to watch the movie again.
yeah I get it an alter ego is the same person, but its slight difference from having dissassociative identity disorder where you're two different people but to everyone else your the same person.

Absolutely. Fruit is not dessert, it's fruit, and pastry is more of a savory thing.
Now I want a macaroni pie...and the only way to eat Chrsitmas cake is to peel off and stuff the marzipan and icing and give the rest to the dog.

Man I've seen that movie a million times...people calle Ed Norton's character Tyler Durton because when his mind in that state that's who he is and introduces himself as such. Same body, two different people. You think when Yauch is Hornblower he goes around calling himself Yauch or MCA??

No, fail! I mean two legit lives, neither one really lying about anything. Just say you spent every other day living in a different town or something, dressing differently, acting differently...

Don't ruin my fantasies with cheating/lying scum or harsh truth!

If that's the case what's edward norton's REAL name them?
I swear they're both tyler durton because they're the same person they just have two separate personalities, but they're still the same person. At the end of the film when he realises that he's had another pesonality the whole time he doesn't say I"M NOT TYLER DURTON because he is tyler durton he just had 2 personalities. And he asks Martha what his name is and she tells him its Tyler Durton. And that is when he's edward norton and not brad pitt and he realises that he's Tyler all along. He just creates a 'tyler' he wishes he was.

heh ok
it would be cool to be like an undercover agent or a spy or something
and everyone thought u were just some normal person
but secretley u had a whole nother life that no one knows about.

seriously though i reckon even has an alter ego to a point it's called the 'super ego' - who are you in public , as opposed to who are you at home alone, within yourself.

When I was in highschool we had this Econ class that everyone had to take. There was this huge project midterm that was an online stock market sort of game, and we traded passwords between all the classes so we could have one guy named "David Banks" in every class. He even won in one class (which the teacher was pissed about). From then on different friends of mine (mostly myself) would give that as our name to the local paper.

My mate got a job doing data entry for some stock trading company. Because some of the info was hype-sensitive they made them sign this privacy agreement at the start that they wouldn't share the information.
Anyways within the first week my mates entering all this data when all of a sudden he comes across this dudes name that is Iva Bigcock or some shit like that. He thought it was funny so he emailed it - the name - to his dad.
Then he got fired.
It was a test.

my alter ego is clive xavier. i coined it a decade ago when calvin klein underwear started flooding the market. i wanted a name that sounded regal, distinguished and sophisticated.

funny story, i met this cool hippy chick at the keg around the corner from a house i was running back in 96. i intro'd myself as the dashing clive xavier. i wrote my number on her take-out styrofoam box, as we were leaving. (last call)

she called promptly the next afternoon and asked to speak with clive xavier. i felt i had some 'splaining to do. i didn't expect her to call and our house cat was giving birth at the time. i told her cx was my alter-ego and i wasn't trying to be deceptive or sneaky.

she had a horse named dakota, tripped around with the dead for a few too many years and noodle danced constantly.

so my alter ego is well known back home. i got a call from a close friend yesterday announcing the birth of his first son. marcus xavier ______.

i gotta say, i feel sort of flattered -- even i shouldn't.

My brother and I used to go camping with our mom and dad when we were younger and at every new camp site, we'd have different names and stories.

I remember I once wanted to be called Jessica so I told people I met I was named Jessica, and once they called me that I forgot that was my name and didn't respond. Whoops.

Best one was when my brother and I pretended to be Frederick and Elizabeth (pronounced E-lies-ah-beth) and we were snotty kids with super-rich parents. We bragged about how we weren't staying in a tent or camper, but at the 5-star Double Tree Hotel just up the street. We were just there to mingle with "the common man," and we complained about the inadequacies of their tennis courts.

Yeah, we were like 9 and 10.

Sometimes I feel like I have an Alter ego, when I go to work and have to change into my uniform. My co-workers see me walking in with a baseball cap, baggy cargos, running shoes, sport jacket. Then I have to change into this cocktail waitress outfit that kind of resembles a stewardesses suit, so my boss teases me and says I remind him of one of the robert palmer girls in the "adidcted to love" video. On my off time I'm crass and somtimes swear like a trucker in conversation, then while working and serving my guests I say things like, "Pardon me sir, would you care for another glass of chianti?" :)
