yes, this is in the right forum, hear me out.

sometimes i forget that we're pretty much all here for the same reason, for the same band.

yeah that's all

Yes, probably. I've been listening to them for a long time, and while I admit they're not the best at what they do, they do it like nobody else does.

Don't ever fucking talk to me again. Wait, we've never spoken. Don't ever post a witty sarcastic joke response to one of my posts again!!!!!;)

Put it this way, there'll never be another Beastie Boys. But that doesn't mean I can't be objective. Shit, even they can be objective. It's more about the humanity or some shit now, I guess.

They used to be but I hardly listen to them nowadays.

I don't even think that I have a favorite band anymore but I could say that they'd be in that catagory though.

M.C. Guevera

I usually latch onto one particular band for quite a while and then move on to the next. First it was Rage Against The Machine, then Linkin Park, then Public Enemy, and now the Beastie Boys (with Quarashi added in as an extra). I've been into the Beasties longer than any other band on that list.

I became a fan in 2004 and I have yet to have a "Beasties Withdrawal" where I barely listen to them. I should be due for one real soon. It's been two years.

A Tribe Called Quest is starting to get alot of attention from me.

No, not in terms of who I listen to the most, or who I like the best live. Not in terms of who has the most albums on my best of list either.

They're probably the funniest band that I like, and they've probably got a spot in my top ten live shows and that's saying a lot. I also love that they know more about music than I do. (We need another radio show when they get back from South America.)

skra75

not especially. I appreciate their instrumental work immensely, and wish (as I've said for 7 years now on and off) that they would hang up the mics and play instrumental full time with Money Mark. I hope they put out a full album done in this way, I think it would be a work of genius.

but, saying that the beastie boys and this board represent a side of myself that embraces frugality, humbleness, and other stuff that when I squint at, makes me smile. I guess that's what brings me here, the people, the funny shit, not so much the music.

icy manipulator
10-21-2006, 11:05 AM
i dont listen to them as much these days, but i dont think i go nuts over any song than intergalactic when i'm out in town or what not.

And seriously, how many other band's msg board's do ppl post on? none! so yeah, the beasties are all your fav bands

In a way, that's what they represent to me. I listen to a lot of other bands, and I'm always in and out of phases. But I've been kind of affected by the Beastie Boys.

i went through the obsession phase of my life where i breathed, slept and ate beastie boys. haha. i would STILL call them my favorite band, solely because there's not yet been another band to produce the beastie-euphoria i once experienced. but for the most part, i just listen to pb sometimes or some other really good songs, and i love seeing them live. but im not giving away my first born to get a little closer anymore.

Ish. I don't know that I have a 'favourite' band. But the Boys are like, the same age as me, from the same place and such, so I can identify times and places in my life (as well as level of person maturity, significant relationships, etc) by their records. High school was License to Ill. College was Paul's Boutique. Etc, etc.

Pootytang

I would have to say yes they are. I've been a fan since 86 and have never missed a release date of an album, including Aglio E Olio and the BS2000 stuff. I had to wait a bit for the Country Mike album because I couldn't afford to through down 600+ dollars for a piece of vinyl.

pretty much, it takes nads to be a beastie boy and nads they have. No product endorsements, working the fundraisers, politically active, a nationwide theatrical release with the word Fuckin' in it.

seems like everybody else is looking for an early bed, 'cept Neil.

I just kind of grew up with them being a big deal between me and a couple friends. I've probably read more articles etc. about them than any other band. I don't know if they're musically my favorite, but they're definitly a favorite. I think they've just sort of blended into my other favorites now.

Drederick Tatum
10-21-2006, 07:15 PM
probably not. but I can still appreciate what they're about. alot of the music I listen to now has been, to a certain degree, exposed to me through the Beastie Boys... these days I'm probably more interested in them as popular culture icons than musicians.

i'm a "new" fan but i fell hard for this band i've never fallen so hard for a band before so i guess that means that they are my favorite.

& they were the ones who really introduced me to old skool rap...if it wasn't for them i wouldn't have A Tribe Called Quest, Slick Rick, Eric B & Rakim, MC Lyte, Run DMC, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, NWA, LLCoolJ & others in my iPod also they kinda introduced me to Talib Kweli (he isn't old skool more like indie) if it wasn't for them my iPod would still be full of 50 cent, ying yang twins or lil jon or young joc & young dro & other crap rappers

they completly changed my music taste for the better(y)

Jitters
10-21-2006, 07:54 PM
Well I'm 16 now and when I first started listening to the Beasties I was almost 13 and at the time I was only listening to really bad rock music, they completely changed my musical tastes.

I went from only listening to rock to only listening to hip-hop which is still almost the only thing I'll listen to today. I had never heard anything like them and when I bought Hello Nasty from hearing Intergalatic I could not stop listening to it.

I'm not completely obsessed as I used to be with them but they are definitely always going to be my favorite group.

I'll probably be obsessed again when they drop the next album though :)

Bob
10-21-2006, 10:57 PM
i've never seen them live, and i regret it. i fear that they're going the way of the rolling stones, getting too old, you know. but every video of a live performance of theirs that i see, i'm really just so sucked back into them, they're just not giving up, at all, they're showing no signs of slowing down.

and god bless mix master mike, he really keeps shit interesting. i love how he changes up the beat on their songs for each show, dude keeps you guessing. what a team

M.C. Guevera
10-21-2006, 11:49 PM
I don't like it when he changes some of the beats, though. Like "Paul Revere". The beat is half of what makes the song such a classic in the first place!

Alot of them are good though, like when he drops in "Breathe" during "So What'cha Want?". And when he drops in "Apache" during "Root Down" (although DJ Hurricane was the one who did that first).

10-22-2006, 01:41 AM
They were once my all-time favorite band (they most certainly were when I initially joined this board in the Fall of '02). But I've gone through lots of #1's from time to time (The Beatles, The Clash, Depeche Mode, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Ryan Adams among various others).

Right now, I don't really think I have a favorite anymore. The more bands I listen to and the more I expand my horizons, it's harder and harder now.

But Beasties are most certainly high up on the list. I haven't listened to the group a whole lot since after '04, but those records will never get old and I'll always be interested in what they do in the future.

of course i've seen worse. if i was at a TSOL or Crass or something show i'd expect a violent pit and stay away from the middle of the damned crowd. but this seemed like a pretty low-key show, and a lot of kids (pretty young ones at that) were there. the beastie boys are not punk. when they finally started playing some of their harder tunes, it was just the excuse those douchebag asshole shitheads needed to jump around and act like they're tough. god, i would LOVE to see those guys in a real pit at a gutterpunk show. they'd get their tribal tattoos ripped right off their skin and their stupid wooden beads shoved up their asses.
