everything by bill hicks is hilarious. i recently started listening to his stuff again (he's always been a hero but you can only listen to the same material over and over again so many times) and i forgot how much i loved the guy. he's one of the few people who can do political comedy without being annoying or preachy. he does it well, he makes it funny, and he makes it poignant. and somehow, miraculously, he makes it fairly timeless, too. this joke's from 1992 but honestly you could not change a word and have it still work just as well today.

Towards the end of his life, Hicks started signing himself into hotels as Otis Blackwell. He was the guy who was supposed to have ghostwritten all of Elvis's stuff and this was hicks' way of feelin better about the fact that leary totally ripped him off.

Good Hicks Book is "Love All the People" - its got loads of his shows plus interviews, sketch ideas and letters and loads on the time when he got banned from Letterman.
