Do you fall asleep immediately or toss and turn forever until you go to sleep?

I always read or get on my laptop (like now) until i get sleepy. I hate just laying here and not sleep

i heard that you should turn off the computer 30 minutes before sleeping cuz the screen's light can like fuck up your eyes & make it harder to sleep

anyways i lay-around in my bed till i fall asleep, it takes a while though

I toss like a mother. Which leads me to fear going to bed. Which leads to later bedtimes, naps, not being able to sleep...it's a vicious cycle.

umm well i'm kind of in bed all night... i watch tv in bed, sometimes i pass out in front of the tv and wake up about 3am to switch it off.

sometimes i have to go to sleep early, so i turn everything off and i toss and turn for hours while thinking about how crap life is.

and sometimes i know i am going to pass out and turn off the tv and lights and probably think for about 2 mins before drifting off to sleep.

I'm the tossin and turnin type. But it drives me absoloutly nutso , so I end up stayin up till about 4am or so on my pc until im tired enough to roll out of the chair and onto the bed.
And then in the morning I roll out of bed and onto the chair.

Repeat.

i always lay down on my left side, lay there about 2 minutes, and then switch to my right, and normally fall asleep right away.

but i usually am in this schedule where im awake till 2 or 3 every night, so on nights i should get to bed earlier i end up just laying there thinking about just about everything before i finally get to sleep

I read till I can't read no more.
I used to do that, I'd got through about 4 or 5 (trashy) novels a week.
Then I got the internet.

it depends. i have a nap during the day. this makes me able to get up earlier and stay up later. so have this weird sleep schedule. i won't lie down unless i know i can fall straight asleep.

I normally toss and turn unless I take an over the counter sleep aid. Regardless though, I usually wake up between 0100-0230 and either go back to sleep or spend all night trying to go back to sleep.

I just go to bed and sleep. Never have too much tossing and turning - thankfully.

It takes me forever to fall asleep, I either read or listen to music until I can't concentrate any more.

The only time I fall asleep straight away tends to be when I'm drunk. :(

I usually fall asleep pretty quickly. If I'm not falling asleep fast enough, I'll get up and walk around the apartment, maybe clean a little bit, or do whatever I feel like doing.

If you're doing ish like reading and stuff in bed you can condition your body into thinking that the bed is a place to be awake at and do productive stuff in. Therefore, you need to condition it back to learning that it's for sleepy time... so just hang out in there when you're sleepy and don't do none of that other nonsense like reading, internet surfing, or drawing.

At least, that's what they told me when I was having problems falling asleep... and that worked for me. Last I knew though it was still okay to have sex in bed, so go on with that one, y'all.

i always fear that i wont fall asleep and have a sleepless night being tormented by random running thoughts. so in turn i keep myself awake with the anxiety that i creat for myself.

I used to have a bit of a time getting to sleep. Now I follow some instructions:

Generally:

Don't use your bed for anything except sex and sleep. If you associate your bed with reading or homework or mountain climbing or whatever, you're body is less likely to say -- "Oh yeah: matress equals sleep!"

If you have to get up (or you get restless or whatever), don't turn on the light. That can re-set your internal clock in a way. Go to the bathroom in the dark or by nightlight or whatever.

Fresh, cool air helps keep you asleep better than warm, stuffy air.

And, here's an unfathomable one, but I swear it works: if you count backward from 1000, you get to sleep much more quickly than if you count forward from zero. I can testify. I think it's because counting backward makes you focus on the numbers a tiny bit more, so your mind is less likely to start picking up other strands of thought while you count in some rote fashion. Since starting to do this, I haven't made it past 500; I usually don't get past 850.

Weird.

i have major trouble falling asleep cause i think too much. so i usually stay up late cause i hate just laying there. then when i finally fall asleep you could barely whisper to me and i would wake up. and now lately i've been waking up around 2 or 3 am. which sucks cause my alarm is set for 4:30am and i usually go to sleep around 12 or 1.

can you die or go crazy from insomnia??? :o

the only way I can fall asleep is on my stomach and I know that is killer for your back. My chiropractor says its a coddling thing...weird. I toss and turn for about 15 min but I am up so early that I have no problems passing out around 9ish. OLD LADY!

i
id sleep for days straight if i had the chance!

Me too. I actually want to experiment once I don't have a job. I could sleep continuously, only getting up to go to the bathroom and eat. Just because I don't want to pee myself or starve to death. You know.

Most of the time I pick a comfy position on my side and fall dead asleep. If I'm really excited about something coming up, I'll think for a while and not fall asleep for like 10 minutes and then I'll doze off.

i dont know if you can die from it and unfortuantly for some, don't think you can, because incessent insomnia can make u want to die. That constant state of being tired but not being able to sleep.
but the crazy part? man haven't u seen fightclub?
it's true
hehe
no really, insomnia can actually induce psychosis.
But only if you have tendancies to be like that anyways
Im sure you'll be fine.

I either sleep a lot or not at all. The record i slept in one time, only getting up for the bathroom a couple of times, was 31 hours I think from memory.
yay go me.

I've slept about 18 hours non-stop, but that's because I usually have shit to do. I really do want to try to just continuously sleep. It's a useful thing. For example, visiting Canada in June, Brett had to go to his job. So I went home and fell asleep and awoke when he was back. Good time-passer.

hellojello
10-24-2006, 11:36 AM
well the more you sleep the more you need it. at least when you get into excessive levels like I do sometimes. so it's kinda countaproductive you'd think you'd wake up hell energized and refreshed but you just wake up energyless and wanting to go back to bed.
but maybe that's just me.
weird but true.

QueenAdrock
10-24-2006, 11:37 AM
Nah, I heard that too. The more you sleep the more tired you get. Which definitely is the case for me, which is why I'd like to try my experiment. It'll work, dammit.

the only way I can go to sleep is if I lay face down with the pillow right above my head/face on the mattress, so the edge of the pillow touches the top of my head kinda. sometimes I can only sleep face down in the mattress too. don't understand how I don't suffocate.

I DO THE SAME EXACT THING

a lot. I toss and turn but if more than half the time that's how I do it.

weird.

unless i'm completely fucking exhausted (and even that doesn't always do the trick), i always toss and turn for at least an hour. usually much more. no matter what time i wake up/go to bed. i've been like this since i was a kid. i remember being awake until 2 or 3 am every night as early as age 7. i'm a really light sleeper, too. unless i have the whole weekend to devote to it, i rarely get good, deep, restful sleep. sigh.

My back is stuffed from cricket so i can't sleep for longer than like 8 hours before i have to wake up and stretch it out. I really should see a physio :(

Because I am up at like 0515 in the Army, by the time you get to lights out, boom, you're asleep. Even if at 2255 you don't feel sleepy, at 23:05 you are asleep. It's a skill you need to have in the Army, falling asleep quickly, because you don't know always when you can catch some sleep, especially on exercises or shit.

i used to toss and turn like crazy. here and there i still do. since i started working, i can fall asleep as soon as i sit down, lie down or stand in one spot too long.

i can have a 2+ hr nap after work and still be fast asleep by 2200 no probs. i wake at 0455 most days.

today (day off) i slept for a full 12 hrs. although i feel a little groggy as a result, i feel like my body was really yearning for it.

sleep, the mysterious 1/3 of your life.
