I used to HATE my nose especially after breaking it a few times...then a lil song called The Humpty Dance changed my life...sounds silly but it's true

I've had elective surgery. 2 times. No, it wasn't cosmetic and I didn't pay for it the government did.
No, I'd rather not talk about it on this board.
So you'll just have to wonder.
heh
but yeah all my life me and my bro have been like i'm soooo getting a nose job when i'm old and rich cause like wtf were my parents thinking procreating when they both have such hideous noses.
That I'll never know.

i almost had elective surgery (non cosmetic, a private matter as well) but it was cancelled at the last minute. good thing too, it would have taken me months to repair.

yeah?
God you had to post JUST THEN didn't you.
I just wondered because when you said 'repair' I thought maybe you'd realised you'd made a mistake wanting the surgery and you'd have to take steps to 'fix' it later
Not that I can think of any surgical procedure where that would be applicable at least not ones that are elective through public health, as opposed to purely cosmetic.

I saw this (http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/10/24/eyelash.transplant.reut/index.html) on CNN.com and thought it belonged here.
No cosmetic surgery, nor would I get any. There's little things that could be improved, but overall I'm happy with myself.

So if you've got someone elses eyelashes does that mean they become part of you? Oh wait I just read the article properly, it's your OWN hair.
Whatever it's still dumb.
How about how they're talking of (maybe they've already done it I'm not sure) transplanting faces from dead people onto people that are severely disfigured from fire, car accidents etc.
Ethically right? yay or nay?
Personally I think it's fair enough, but then again, if (like those opposing it said) someone I knew died and donated their organs, and face, and all that, I'd probably feel kind of awkward if I ever happened to come across the person who ended up with their face.

The thought of it (for myself) grosses me out. I could never do it. I can see someone going in to fix a deformity, but when you can count the surgeries someone's had just by looking at them, that freaks me out. I just don't understand it.

Well just because you get their 'face' doesn't mean that you look like them. Burn victims still have their overall structure and just use the facial skin as their own, I believe. It's not like you'd be walking down a street and be like "HOLY SHIT IT'S MY DEAD EX-HUSBAND!" Though that'd be kinda cool.
I have no problem with stuff like that, if the person agrees to give their organs away after dying. However, all this plastic surgery for non-serious reasons is getting kinda ridiculous. My ex's sister got a nosejob and a chin job and looked just the same, but a *little* more symmetrical. Her nose was a little more balanced and her chin was a little stronger, but if you compare pictures it's not dramatic like "Holy shit you look so much better." Most people wouldn't be able to tell she had anything done, but she insisted on having it done and <3s it, so I guess good for her. But I still say it's a waste of daddy's money (though i never saw that deter her before).

That's a good point, to be honest I'm pretty uninformed about the whole thing and never consider that, that would be the reality of the situation.

see that's just it, you want to go for suttle... and not completely over done where people wont know who you are. I.E...Jennifer Grey. I think its a bigger compliment if people cant tell you've had work done.
