Show last night was AMAZING! Played SO many oldies, but didn't play long enough- definitley could have rocked it a little longer. Venue was a great place, nice and cozy w/ a sweet roof top lounge.

Have to say though, I've been a fan of theirs for oh, say getting close to TWENTY YEARS now (can you tell my age yet) and I went last night with 2 girlfriends. We rocked it out- dancing non-stop, and couldn't believe that some people were just standing around.

ANYWAY, we decided to relive our youth and hung out by the exit out back after the show. It was literally the 3 of us, a cute couple, a paparazzi & some limo driver- thinking the boys were kosher dudes- and since we aren't maniacal serial killers- they'd be mellow and sign some autographs. We hung around for about an hour... Mike D with his crazy FRO came out first- we called his name, asked if he'd sign and we got denied, he jumped in his CRV (I think) and drove off. 1st letdown. Then, about 20 minutes later Yauch & Ad-Rock came out to get into their car- we also called their names and they looked over and pretty much ignored us. Then drove off in their Toyota truck (I think). I totally respect the fact that they probably wanted to go chill somewhere BUT I was just a little disappointed in the fact that they wouldn't take 2 seconds out of their night for a DIE-HARD fan who has pretty much seen them everywhere from NY, LA & London over the years. I even have a pic of me onstage at the London show dancing, before I jumped off back in 1992 (gotta dig that one out of the archives).

I still love my BOYS and always will... just a little let down, especially since we waited so long, then had an hour drive back to the Orange Curtain!

The guy who was part of the couple had a set list- hopefully he'll post it. Ciao!

I can see why you feel let down. But they're not to know you're a 'hardcore' fan, and I don't know...if I came out and got a glimpse of a paparazzi I wouldn't stop and say hi. Obviously this would be if I was famous...

I hear you on not enough people dancing.

Too bad you feel let down, but c'mon, autographs? And you basically state how old you are.

And then to complain that you had to drive an hour?

Some of us drove much further and would never complain.

THE SHOW WAS PHENOMENAL!

Don't get me wrong- we had an AMAZING time... and I'm kinda kidding about the autographs... just trying to relive my youth- got 3 year old twins consuming my life these days. Drive home was no biggie at all- we flew down the freeway. Yup, I'm 35 and proud of it :) I want them to play again SOON!

Nice...well, don't be surprised if more people jump down your throat because of your thread title. :p

If I could only function better off of 4 hours of sleep....

I'm trying to EDIT the let down fan part, since I'm really not- so anyone who replied to me, if you would be so kind as to EDIT your reply to REMOVE my half-brain dead comment :) I'm such a newbie at this- can you tell?? I can't seem to get it out of the thread title though... even when I edit- HELP!

I suppose you can't edit the title.

No worries. The most important part is that you got to see an awesome show. :D

A cumulative effect maybe? If they stopped each time someone called out to them, they'd never get anywhere. :)

For me, the show is enough. I wouldn't wait for them to show up and if I saw them on the streets, I'd absolutely let that moment pass undisturbed.

(Besides, in that context and within those confines, what sort of exchange can happen that hasn't happened again and again. In that sense, that level of contact has the potential of being more of a perturbation to them probably than anything. Although I'll bet they don't see it that way or if they did, they wouldn't admit it--they seem pretty gentlemanly.)

You make the same negative Mike D comment at every opportunity. When I clicked on this thread I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

I don't collect signatures. I have plenty of people in my life who are nice to me without meaning it.

I expect a band to make good CDs and put on entertaining shows. You really need to find a way to see the Beasties live and see how Mike treats the fans when it matters.

You always make it explicit. At every opportunity. That was my point.

Last night before he left the club and had the audacity to get in a car and go home, Mike was in tip top form and really connected with the crowd. That's what I want from him.

Nice to see the instrumentals back in the set. I was really surprised though, that they didn't break out any hardcore stuff for that skate contest or any of these recent shows? Ah well, there's always the next record!

I didn't get that impression of Mike. Met him about 5 years ago at a Scapegoat Wax(Grand Royal) show. He was a very kick back and chatting with us for a few minutes after the show. But nobody was asking for autographs and the like, just hanging out and I think famous people/celebs or whatever enjoy that more because they are not being hounded for something. I don't typically ask for autographs. I would rather shake their hand and say thanks and get a thank you back as i did that night.

Oh yea! Last night was awesome!

This rant reminds me of this recent rant (http://www.stereogum.com/archives/003785.html) by another bands fan who got the response he needed.

I met them here in Austin back in February at SXSW and they were just as cool as I had always hoped. A true class act all 3 signed autographs for my son & nephew Adrock posed in pics w/ them I mean the whole 9. Here is a shot of Adrock w/ my son. One of the best days of both mine & my son's life I tell you. I think we chilled out front of the Paramount Theater for at least 10 minutes shootin the shit w/ Adrock while AIFST was playing inside. Don't mean to brag don't mean to boast....

Sorry for the bad experience, i also had a run in w/ Mike D in 2004 and also was denied. Most of us know how you feel.

great story and pics, Shamus... thanks for sharing...

Mr . Diamond was a gentleman when I was introduced to him in March, he was a bit shy but appreciative of the fans and their contributions... having a conversation in an after party atmosphere is much different than getting hounded by fans for an autograph after a long show, granted...
