"After Pat’s Birthday" (http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/200601019_after_pats_birthday/)
excerpt: "Somehow American leadership, whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor of its soldiers on the ground."
Of course, the neo-cons are countering Kevin's observations with all the cheap insults and/or twisted info they can muster.

"He spoke about the risks with signing the papers. How once we committed, we were at the mercy of the American leadership and the American people. How we could be thrown in a direction not of our volition. How fighting as a soldier would leave us without a voice… until we got out. "
This is the whole argument in a nutshell....and spoken by a man who left a lucrative professional football career to fight for his country.
Whatever the outcomes or your personal opinions on the wars in Afghanistand and Iraq (and terror), you can't argue that those who VOLUNTEER for the military don't know what they arew doing or are somehow duped.
War is hell.....if you volunteer for hell, then you're getting what you asked for.

I wasn't quoting Kevin - I was quoting the article and what PAT said. The focus is wrong - not the sentiment.

Support the troops! They're over there making brave sacrifices and defending freedom and spreading the noble ideals of democracy and we'd be living in chains if it weren't for their blood and valour!
What, they're complaining? Well fuck those guys, don't they know what they signed up for?
I always find the conservative view of the military extraordinarily amusing. Until I remember how many people die because of it.

Honor them...don't "fuck" them. Most of them are WAY too muscular for my taste  :)
