I remember when I was first introduced to the internet, I was convinced that people who sent me "You've been selected!" stuff were being legit. I was like WHOA! A HUNDRED BUCKS, FOR ME? AWESOME! And then I realized they were total BS and I was sad. (Mind you, I was young and naive when I first got teh internets.)

You know how many people are desensitized to the "You have won!" shit? A lot. They once did a study for NBC's Dateline or something, just a quick segment. They called up 100 people randomly on the phone and told them "I'm calling to tell you you've won $20 cash. Are you interested in claiming it?" and see who took the bait. Two people did, and NBC went to their house, handed them $20 and left.
