i have 1.5mb/s and i download at 180kb/s which is standard

Apparently ours is 24000k and from a good torrent I'll get 500kbs, from the isp server, like downloading a game patch or demo it goes at about a meg a second

Remember when they give you the speed it's in bits, not bytes

what about downloading things in general. like you go to winzip.com and you download the free trial of winzip or something more mainstream like that

When I say good torrent I mean from a site that makes people register and then kinda forces them to seed to 1:1. Like www.myspleen.net, right now there's at least 10 torrents with 100+ seeders and no leechers. Maybe try one of them and see how it goes. Up to you.

Remember 3.5mb/s = 3.5 megaBITS not megabytes

There's 8 bits in a byte, so 3.5 megabits a second = about 0.5 megabytes a second

I dunno why they give the speed in bits, but it's always been that way. It may seem like they're trying to shaft you but they're not really, it's the way it's always been. This is my understanding of it at least. I don't think I'm wrong but I could be.
