So, it's 4:30 a.m. in Rio and I just got back from the Beasties concert on Tim Festival. The adrenaline is still pumping, so I can't sleep for now.
well, what can I say? For me, the show was the best I've ever been to, the first time I get to see them live, but it was not actually 100% perfect.
Firstly, I don't know why, but Money Mark and Alfredo Ortiz never came, so there was no "Sabrosa" or "Something's Got To Give".
Then, there were lots of pauses in-between songs and the show lacked a little dynamic. Rio is very hot, they wore suits all the time and I can't tell if they got tired, but it seems it's due to Mixmaster Mike havin' technical problems with his turntables. He kept complaining and there were some glitches. On "Skills To Pay The Bills", the record missed beats and they had to go on rapping "a cappella". And they talked a lot too. Apparently, they loved Rio's fruit juices. lol
It was ace anyway. I loved it. Everybody says about the 1995 concert here havin' been the best they saw in their lives, but I missed that one.
The set list might have two or three songs out of order, but it's pretty accurate:
Root Down
Triple Trouble
Sure Shot
Pass the Mic
Time to Get Ill
Do It
Egg Man
The Skills to Pay the Bills
Flute Loop
Posse in Effect
No Sleep Till' Brooklyn
Body Movin'
Paul Revere
Shake Your Rump
Brass Monkey
3 MC's and 1 DJ
Super Disco Breakin'
Ch-Check It Out
So What'cha Want
Intergalactic
Gratitude
Sabotage
Peace!

A very small group of fans was unbelievably lucky. Beasties were on top of their game and the venues were super small. It's a rare opportunity, at least in the US.
I'm not a big fan of festival shows for a bunch of reasons, but I always try to remember that it's the only way most people will ever see Beasties. (It's the way I first saw Beasties.) An imperfect Beasties show is still memorable.

Although the rule now more than the exception, I agree.

Sorry for two things:
1) taking so long in posting the pictures, but here they are: http://br.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/djchacal2001/my_photos
Most are kinda blurry, but I was really up front and security told me not to use flashlights. But it gives the right impression as to how energic it was.
I've got some short videos too, later I'll upload them on YouTube.
2) Like most decade-long fans (actually, 17 years for me), I tend to get critical when things don't turn out exactly how I expected them to be.
Saying that, the show was actually unbelievable, everybody was happy as s*** (Ad-Rock even said so, these very words) and it was considered to be the best one in Tim Festival by many.
The rest is petty stuff. Who cares if some things didn't work out?

I found this very shitty video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEpb6Pk_1ro) on youtube of MMM's intro and beginning of Root Down.
It's horrible quality. But better than nothing.
