I got 33 books at the library booksale this weekend. Bag of book for five dollars. (y)

I'd love to take a year off and just... read. Catch up on so many books I still haven't read, so many authors I haven't really delved into.

Or paint. I'd love to really learn how to paint; devote a year to seein what kind of painter I might be.

Or really dig into classical music or something. It's still largely "background music" to me, but when I put on headphones and listen -- holy CRAP! Some of the stuff these composers were doing is so amazing. It's easier to hear in quartets sometimes than full on symphonies, but -- I can hear it.

If you could take a year off to catch up on some hobby or something, what would it be?

Hmm. If I had a year to catch up stuff, I wouldn't catch up on 'hobbies' per se...it's stuff that I'm interested in and have been meaning to go to and haven't had the chance.

The Maryland Civil War trails, for one. And historic Gettysburg. And then of course I'd travel to Europe to see all of their nerdy historical sites too. History is a hobby for me, but there's not much hands-on stuff you can do other than visiting sites. So that's my answer!

i would probably first try and dig deeper into my list of movies that i want to see, which is something like 250 deep right now

all the rest of the time would probably be spent browsing the shelves at record stores for hours on end and reading up about local history

assuming money wasnt an issue, I'd travel...then get caught up on my reading on my travels.

...maybe I could get a EuroRail pass with a English Language library card and tour the countries with an easel strapped to my back with Ms. Delpy. :D

I would get into all the household DIY arts and crafts projects that I've been meaning to give a go. I either haven't had the time, or have been too lazy to attempt a lot of the things I want to learn how to do, like upholster furniture and construct picture frames.

And yes, a trip to Europe and/or Australia would also be in order.

P.S. Kudos to me for having an internet based discussion about what I would do if I had all the free time in the world when I'm moving halfway across the country in 4 days and still have an assload of packing to do. :(

That stuff sounds great.

Woodworking. I would do some woodworking. Maybe learn carving and wood sculpting.
