Might as well just make something I can dredge up from time to time.

Gojira (http://www.gojira-music.com/) are a metal band... from France. That should be enough to get you to check them out. Not enough? One of their songs is called Unicorn and the album is about global warning. You can listen to the tracks in the media > audios section.

Chris Clark - http://www.throttleclark.com/ (Body Riddle)

I had listened to the Throttle Furniture EP a few weeks ago and Herr Bar tended to stand out the most amongst the other 4 tracks. they were kind of 'whatever'. The LP, though, is pure magic. The cool weather coming in is the perfect accompaniment when you bump it in your car on the way to work.

You can hear short (way too short) samples at Bleep. (http://www.bleep.com/?bleep=WARPCDD149) Vengeance Drools and Night Knuckles are the best reflections of the main songs, I suppose.

Get to it if you like that instrumental shit.

Squarepusher - Hello Everything (http://squarepusher.net/)

Hmm, I suppose if you're a Squarepusher fan you're already on this. Welcome To Europe is one of the better full tracks to listen to on the site. Plenty of Amen breaks and crazy synth work, as to be expected.

ZAZEN BOYS

Experimental prog rock hip hop group from Japan. Here are some videos.

YURETA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDgRQ05JLgU)

Himitsu Girl's Top Secret (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXtI4zLSSaM)

Oh yeah, they started out as Number Girl.

If you don't like Bjork then don't even bother. Just wait for the next post.

Seriously.

Ok, still there? Joanna Newsom plays the fuck out of the harp. Shit's beautiful.

This is a song off of the Ys album.
Cosmia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzKJzuVhMnE)

Her voice is so weird but I'm feeling it. Make me feel a little fairy-ish but sometimes you gotta take a break at being gangsta you know?

To continue the faggy female vocalist tangent...

Sally Shapiro - I Know (http://hem.bredband.net/johanagebjorn/iknow.mp3)

This shouldn't have been released this year. Maybe 30 years ago. Either way this is some winter time disco throwback shit. You can't deny the intro. I dare you.

Drumcorps is a mix of grindcore (don't ask) and heavy metal shyt. Here's a clip of Grist (http://drumcorps.cc/assets/audio/grist(clip).mp3), which is the name of the album.

Listen to some more samples here. (http://drumcorps.cc/)

Not for the faint of heart. Or ear. You'd better like DSP effects also.

I've been neglacting this...

Fennesz (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=77288849) was born in Austria and produces electronic music via manipulation of a guitar via a laptop computer. Chateau Rouge is the song you should listen to.

Justice (http://www.myspace.com/etjusticepourtous) is on the same label as Uffie and he makes some squelchy electro sounding musics. We Are Your Friends is a pretty decent track but Waters of Nazareth is a true beast. A big, stupid wait 10 seconds and turn the volume down beast. One of the best singles of 2006, IMO.

For some reason I thought that Number Girl was the one who had danced in the "I MY ME MINE" Polysics' video. But no. She (or maybe he?) did a collab with them. I got mixed up.

ET
01-05-2007, 01:32 AM
Okay, as far as I know Polysics haven't collaborated with Number Girl or Zazen Boys. I even wiki'd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polysics).

That Video (http://www.buzznet.com/tags/polysics/video/) is awesome though. Thank you for mentioning it.

Jungle, dub, dubstep... call it whatever you want. Shockout (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=60936874) brings it to the table.

ET

Eh, make music? I tend to "experiment". I'm probably going to give skra some mix lovin' via a .zip file in a couple of weeks. It ought to contain some original stuffs. Stuffs are good. Shared stuffs are better. I'll keep a word out.

Oh, yeah I love Joanna also. I Am A Bird Now (http://www.antonyandthejohnsons.com/) is back on the playlist at the moment. There is a song from that album in the movie V for Vendetta.

Oh yeah and FUCK YEAH NEW OKKERVIL RIVER (http://www.myspace.com/okkervilriver) album. Black Sheep Boy was probably one of my favorites that year and I'm just assuming that The stage Names is going to be as well. I'm listening to it right now actually. A lot of songs from BSB are in the player on the bottom right.

I don't see anyone mentioning One Man Band Man by Swizz Beats. It's retarded fun at it's finest. He even samples Coldplay. I'm tempted to do the Swizz Beatz dance to all of it. *fold arms, nods head twice the tempo of the song*

I know there's at least one of you guys who knows of Crystal Castles. (http://www.myspace.com/crystalcastles) Guy with a keyboard and an Atari 5200 chip in it and a girl. Big deal, I thought. It took me a few listens for the album to grow on me but it's been worth trying to get into. Air War caught my attention from the get go so check that one out first.

That video for Young Love is pretty inventive. Somehow reminds me of Wes anderson films. I'll definitely check out more of their work.

I've also been enjoying the Hercules and Love Affair (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5spXHUCmWc&feature=related) album as well. You may recognize Antony from Antony and Johnsons fame on most of the songs. Which, I Am A Bird Now just so happens to be one of my favorite albums that came out that year.

Well, that too. :o Although 'laser girl' in the Midfield General video would be fun to take out. She'd be great in helping me unlock my car door after a night of drinking. "Put yer boobs next to the... yeah, thanks I can see now."

Cherry Pie is the best video ever made. Screw Aerosmith, Warrant needs their own version of Guitar Hero. Hell, they'd need 2 of them because there wouldn't be enough room for their songs. Because they're ALL GOOD.

Ministry's Filth Pig is probably one of the greatest albums I ever purchased through Columbia House, excluding Portishead's Dummy.

Although I've had quite a bit of exposure to Ministry's material, I prefer this particular album to all others. I have to admit that a lot of the album is repetitive but that's also why I like it. You get songs that sound like they're only a chorus that repeats or a riff that doesn't deviate much or at all but the effect is as though you're being beaten over the head numerous times. Beaten over the head with some really heavy shit. The textures/effects used on the instruments and even Al's voice sound sludgy/grimey as hell and completely appropriate.

You can headbang to just about every song on the album. Even the cover of Bob Dylan's Lay Lady Lay if you really try hard enough. (Which is a pretty good cover, imo.) Save for the first track, all of the songs on the album are at least 4 minutes in length so pop a couple of Excedrin extra strenght's when you go for that bottle of Skyy. I find the album also works best when put on in the background as you're performing other tasks such as, well, playing GTA IV or drawing dragons fighting sharks and bears in the margins of your Algebra II notebook.

My top 3
1. Lava
2. Filth Pig
3. Dead Guy

That's a Great LP: Sure it's doesn't live up to the "A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste" or "Psalm 69" but it still holds it's own merits. Al Jourgensen is a Living Legend

Neon Neon - Stainless Style (http://www.myspace.com/neonx2)

I really can't do a better job of describing this album than the link does. And honestly, the best songs are featured on the page as well.

One thing I disagree with; I don't think this sounds anything like Gorillaz. And it's really unfair to compare the two when you consider what the theme of the album is. Yeah, there are guests and not one of the songs sound similar to each other. That's where the comparisons end though. What I appreciate is how the album references the mid 80's without mimicking that time period. Be it cheesy synthesizers or overly familiar samples like many artists have done in the past.

It took me forever to get into the album but it's really grown on me as a lot of them tend to stick when that happens. Luxury Pool, Dream Cars, and Trick for Treat are a couple of my favorite songs at the moment.
