Boys & Girls Club gets a Beastie visit
"Proving that beneath their hip-hop exterior beat hearts of gold, two members of the Beastie Boys paid a visit to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz recently.
Mike D Mike Diamond and Ad Rock Adam Horovitz stopped by the downtown Santa Cruz club to participate in a team-building basketball game with the kids. They also visited the club's new music recording studio, which served more than 200 kids.
The two Beasties also were impressed by the newly renovated music room that was made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation, Roots for Success and AT&T Pebble Beach charities, reported Julie Penniman of the club. The Boys & Girls Club offers free drum, guitar, piano and vocal lessons to kids age 7 to 18."
