Yay for you good folks! There's no way I'm going this time but I highly recommend seeing Beasties in Australia.

What is this festival? Is it smaller than Big Day Out? The main stage at BDO was too big, in my opinion. It would be sweet for you guys if they added sideshows again. Here's hoping.

Edit -- I am NOT going. The original double negative was subliminal wishful thinking I guess. :o

I think it's a smaller deal, but a sort of more mature, DJ based thing in many respects. Hitmonlee is in the know. Fewer Slipknot fans.

Hold up, Doc are you coming over again?

I am planning to come to Australia again, but next time I want to come at a different time of year and see different things. The two sideshows in 2005 are among my best ever memories though.

J5 don't get a heap of love around here anymore, but they're playing too. And DJ Yoda. I'd see Yoda on the strength of his 80's Cut & Paste mix.

what's the melbourne place like? i suspect the gold coast one will attract 5-10000 ppl. i've been to about half a dozen festivals at the gold coast location and it should be pretty good. but i'd like to go to sydney for it. i would go to melbourne except i'll be there in the beginning of may for the F1, so i dont really wanna go there twice in 3 weeks. it's only 10 days after my bday so i'd like to go somewhere other than the gold coast for it. make it a real special day you know

Zorra, you guys can crash on our floor but there'll be like 10 other people here most of them fucked up. But if you can deal with that then your welcome to stay. This is going to be fucking awesome. What a lineup for such a small festival, i thought james brown was big last year...way to top that!

argh argh i wanna get preeeeeesale but i only put my paycheque in yesterday and it won't clear until monday life is so unfair!

i think i'll skip breakfest (freestylers) and the BDO (pending next announcement) and would probably prefer this over southbound (basement jaxx LIVE) because that is a 3 hour drive away, compared to belvoir which is like 1 hour.

too many decisions :(

meh, basement jaxx are over rated. i've seen them live 3 times now and even tho Where's Your Head At? goes off live it's not compared to a beasties set. You'll see the beasties. When there's a will there's a way :) ]

oh, if you haven't seen freestylers before trust me, they aint that good. the best thing you'll get out of them is Fasten Yourself Seatbelt if you're lucky. just remember, YOU'RE POSTING THIS ON A BEASTIE BOYS WEBSITE!!! WHERE'S YOUR PRIORITIES AT BABE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

hitmonlee
11-02-2006, 01:49 AM
i've seen beastie boys (twice)
basement jaxx (live - once)
freestylers (dj set once and live once)

basement jaxx are NOT overrated. seeing them live ranks up there as possibly my third or fourth favourite live performance ever (david bowie is #1).

agree freestylers aren't that great live.

yes yes i know, beastie boys (yay), and jurassic 5 (who i've also seen before) are enough to get me into further debt. i'm just unhappy that during my extra broke time of the year (fucking xmas) all the good acts come, and tickets go on sale a couple of days after the announcement, and as i get paid monthly, sometimes there isn't enough chance for me to get a ticket before they sell out.

what's the melbourne place like?

it's a pretty nice venue right in the cbd, next to (or in?) the royal botanical gardens. According to their website, it seats more than 2,000 with room for a further 11,000 on its landscaped lawn. But I'm guessing the capacity should be more?

I am looking forward to this tour very much :) and I'm hoping for Sydney and Melbourne side shows as well.

See you all there!

If you go to the ticketmaster website, you need to register as member, which requires you to put down your name, address, phone number and so on.

Then you log on to the account you have just created.

Then find Good Vibrations, and the correct venue for wherever you are.

Then to buy it presale you need the password (LINEUP)

Then you need to enjoy the beastie boys :D

It was from a friend who is a bit of a music festival nut. That doesn't mean it was exclusive or anything, I think it might just be a mailing list from either Ticketmaster or Jammusic or something.

Miramanee: Ticketmaster recieved an allocation of Presale tickets for the Good Vibrations festival, and decided to sell them to their 'kinda' VIP members only, thus sending an email informing those people of the password needed to access the tickets.

I'm not actually sure whether all you need to do is sign up to get the special treatment, or whether you pay a small amount each year...

No, I really can't but I sure wish I could. It's one of the best places I've ever been. It's lucky for me that I could never build up enough vacation time by February. Plus my work schedule is booked through the end of April with only minor breaks. And I have to get my house rewired. So I'm going to have to be adult about this. :(

I do have enough frequent flier tickets for a ticket to Europe, so if there was a concert in a country I haven't been to yet . . . like Poland . . . .

Seriously though, how many times can someone see the same band before it starts to loose it's thrill. There is definitely something a bit off about traveling to the other side of the planet to see a band you've already seen countless times. What exactly do you think you are going to miss if you don't go to a show? Will that be the one they were going to invite you up on stage to share their intimate thoughts and feelings with you?
cj hood can be an ass, but he said M would be there and guess what, the very next post she came on and announced she would be. It's not a put down if it's true. Maybe M needs to look at herself in the mirror too. It was a harmless jibe at her, but was the truth.
You know there is something strange when the first thing people think of when a show is announced is "I'll bet that Beastie Boys lovin' nut Miramanee is going".
We all remember the temper tantrum she threw when she didn't have enough warning about the recent California shows and she was faced with the possibility of not making it to A show. Somehow she made it anyway though.

Who the hell are you to judge me?! It´s not your job or responsibility to look at anyone and say what he or she does is right or wrong. You are not God. You are not judge of man. You should only be concerned with what YOU do.

no one should be criticized for wanting to see one of their favorite groups...
especially on this message board...

I was telling Pootytang how I missed chances to go to Utah and Austin, and now I regret those missed opportunities...

its not only about following a band, its about spending time with people that you care about...

no one should have to explain themselves or justify why they would go on a hiatus or see a show in another land, I went San Juan Puerto Rico for a show that was cancelled days before it should have gone down...

to Jason P, life takes people diferent places... some people are more spontaneous than others, an adventurer travels the world, an idiot stays home and misses opportunities...

I'd be happy to try and answer the question, but I need to know where you live, how often you travel, how much disposable income you have, and what you like to do with your entertainment dollar. I know some people who fly someplace to gamble, see a football game, or just get a suntan! A guy I work with flies to South America every year to shoot birds! There are people who go to the same resort every winter. I also know a few people who would rather stay home and spend their money on a big TV to sit in front of! My brother plays the same private golf course day after day. Those are all dumb choices in my book. I also think it's stupid to put all your money in a house or new car or clothes but I will spend an obscene amount of money on one dinner or a prime ticket to the opera or an old dictionary.

I'd also need to know what your relationship is like with music. If you don't see much live music or you usually sit in the second tier at a hometown arena I'll bet there's no way I can explain what it's like seeing the right band in the right place with the right audience. That's okay. I have a close friend who has great taste in music and he just told me that he hasn't been to a concert in three years. (actually, I'm having trouble understanding that--WTF?--this guy was at some amazing gigs in the old days. )

I agree that there are very few bands that should be seen more than once on the same tour. I could easily see Radiohead 4-5 times a year (as long as I was close to the stage) but the second time I saw Sigur Ros last year was only good because of my friend. I think that anyone who has seen the Beasties often would tell you that there are things they would change about the set lists -- but all in all, the band does a nice job of mixing the things everyone wants to hear but I'm sick of (Intergalactic) with the things a small number of us are dying to hear (in my case Alive -- which I saw only because I left home).

Maybe I should know who you are and I shouldn't have to ask questions, but I suck at figuring out aliases.

It's a valid question.

Miramanee, You are the one who shared this partial piece of info about your job. If you want to share the details about your job, then please do it because the question begs to be asked.

Why would a band pay you to fly anywhere in the world, at anytime so you could see your "Top 10 favorite bands" of your choosing, but keeping said band a secret?
If you are being paid to do promotion work for a band, why keep them a secret? People who keep secrets usually do so because they have something to hide. Please clarify what it is that you do.

The reason your level of fandom strikes people as a bit off is because you have to wonder where your priorities lie in life. While many of us can envy you for the places you have been able to travel, it's odd because you have gone there solely to see the Beasties, or another band in your "Top 10".
Have you ever considered what you are missing out on in life while you are busy chasing the boys all over the planet? I'm guessing this lifestyle isn't conducive to having a meaningful relationship with someone. You are living the life of a vagabond, for the love of a band. Visiting S.America once a year to shoot birds is ONCE A YEAR. Traveling to see a football game, or just to get a suntan is a break from people's everyday lives, not thier entire life! and I doubt they are being paid to fly anywhere in the world of their choosing to get a suntan while keeping the people who sent them there a secret.

It's like traveling all the way to France to eat a McDonald's hamburger when you have eaten countless burgers within driving distance to your home. If you have a job that affords you the opportunity to travel to France, why not try a French restaurant? Take in the local sights and culture that France has to offer. Spending your time in country after country to just see the Beastie Boys seems like such a waste of time and opportunity if you ask me. If you have a job that allows you to travel anywhere to see any band you like (which I have to question at this point), why limit yourself to 10 bands? Why not see many different bands and expierence someone different?

You accused me of being judgemental? It's like God forbid someone challenge the great Oz! Sweetheart, it's a message board. It's here to ask questions and get info about the band. When you choose to follow a band around the world and go to the lengths to position yourself as a prominent member here that you have, you are opening yourself up to the same questions. Expecting everyone to celebrate you and to never face any criticizm is hilarous.

Now go ahead and retort with some more four letter words.

I think it was a mistake to respond to cj and that alias. I'm sorry I did -- I thought that otis alias might be misunderstanding rather than just attacking -- but I inadvertantly wound him/her up. (I don't think the Otis alias is Rob)

I think the problem is that some people don't want to read about other people's personal experiences. I understand that. I like reading the personal experiences, especially from the foreign shows, but then my enjoyment of a concert has to do with seeing what kind of people showed up and what the mood of the crowd was. Maybe some people dislike the level of detail of M's posts--I know that people don't like my long posts. My personal preference is to get all the details rather than just a setlist and "it ruled" or "it sucked". I also talk too much in real life. Go figure.

There's a lot on the board that I don't want to read. The tour reports are the only "new" news, so I look forward to it. When there are no shows, it's dead dead dead in here. Some people like talking about the old days instead of the new shows. I figure it's best to let everyone do what they want and just try and skim over the things you're not interested in. I know that I need to practice that more myself.

Anyhow, Miramanee, if you're giving up the Beasties and if you have any vinyl, I'd be happy to take it. :p

Actually, I was kinda thinking she was probably a hair stylist for Phil Collins before he went bald. (lb)

if your job is to follow the beasties around (which i feel is total bullshit) then its a legit question to ask......if you're gonna post every minute detail of your beastie-stalking life on here and her own site...then i'd wanna know what allows her to live this life style

I don't get that, why? So you can try and have the same career so that you can do the same? You're coming across as either jealous or a total douche from where I'm sitting. Jesus, let her do whatever the hell she wants and get the fuck over it.

You're (plural) also missing the point of this thread, Beasties coming to Aus! :D

I read a Brazilian review (in the live section) that said they used the 'We Got The' beat at the end of Eggman. Too much of that would be chaos, but it would be cool to hear the Car Thief beat at the end of Sure Shot. In Australia. Or not. You know. Can you get sausages in bread at this thing? Apart from the Beasties, we're just there for the sausage sizzle.

I am so glad that Miramanee is a fan of Beastie Boys, not, say like Madonna, and she has the possibility to fly around the world (my goodness her arms must be tired!) to tell us about all the gigs with loads of details and pics and videos and can present us with links from other peoples pics as well.
I wish I had a job like that where I could follow my favourite bands around. All the times I've followed around I've paid from my own pocket and as they were totally empty because of unemployment during the time of the pageant tour I missed the last time they were in Europe completely.
I hope sometime I get a chance to meet at least some of these awesome people from this board!

I was just thinking it'd be soooo good to see them just like out of the blue. Like walking around the city an shit. Or in a shop. Yall New Yorkers are so lucky to know that each time you go out to the city you "might" see a Beastie Boy. Like when people make a thread saying like "Yauch Sighting" or "I Met Alfrado" etc. That'd be so good I reckon.
