well, they're very different systems so it depends on your gaming stylee.

are you a more independent, pick-up-and-go, disposable type of gamer?

or are you a more devoted, communtity-based long term sort of gamer?

portable gaming = quick bursts of gaming, sometimes longer platforming
main console = longer gaming, playing with other people, etc.

i'd vote wii because it's the FUTURE! and and and you can get your original mario kart action downloaded (i think) (you can also get original mario kart action on ds, however, and original mario kart action ONLINE WOOH!) and it has fabulous cute community online thingies where we can all send wee notes to each other and our miis can play together and oh, it will be so exciting!

actually, i would get both cos the ds is super cheap :cool: but hey, your call.

i have a ds and the wii is on pre-order but i'm still going to do the whole midnight thing and get it first hand!

do you like zelda? well, that is a reason in itself to get the wii. speak no more.
and you know that super smash bros will probably have online capabilities. i'm talking you, me, et - in the ring. it's gonna get dirty!

seriously, i am so stoked about the wii. i can't wait. you guys get it a full 3 weeks or so before us lot though :(

what excites me the most is the online aspect. i think it'll be awesome to turn on my machine and receive messages like "pauli has just bought game x and has spent 5 billion hours on it" (messages like this are genuinely gonna be automated if you choose to do so!) and because it is "always" online on a really low power mode you can automatic updates and messages from nintendo and lots of good things like that. people can come visit your animal crossing town when you're asleep or something and chop down all your trees and send letters to your villagers and oh, the possibilities are endless.

you can send photos to your friends lists as well! agh! and the mii goodness is so cool. there's a "mii plaza" where miis from all over the world can just come and chill out. awesome.

i'm really looking forward to playing cool wee party games with my real-life friends and stuff, too. i predict i will kick ASS at bowling and that sort of duck-hunt game they have bundled with it.

the wii is the future. xbox is the past.

i'm just a little excited about the wii.

Seemingly the "wand" doofer on the Wii aint too accurate - they had a show for it in germany last month and lots of people were underwhelmed because of that. I'm still looking forward to it though.

I'm hoping its good - graphics look like "early Xbox" to me though, I WANT MORE OOOMPH MR NINTENDO!

Start out with a DS, if you enjoy it, get the Wii. The Wii will offer more of the unusual gameplay the DS does....only on a grander scale. (y)

DS is lots of fun. it's good if you have a lot of periods of time where you're stuck somewhere with nothing to do (breaks between classes, etc.) or want something portable like that. there are some great games for it. nintendogs! :o

i've decided to not really chance it with any other game apart from the legend of zelda. wii sports come free the the console so it's not really a 'launch game'. you'll get it anyway. i'm going to get wii play, too, because you get a free controller. and then just buy two more. yup. that's me.

At first I used to pretend that I was excited for the Wii so I could act like I was actually interested in my woman's video game ramblings....but now that its less than a week away, I can honestly admit that I'm pretty hyped to have it.
I'm definetly going to have to set everything up so I don't have to get up from the couch all day. Snacks, drinks, piss/shit bucket. Good times.

I have never been interested in online gaming, but I'll give it a try. Whenever I try using the WiFi on the Nintendo DS, my connection cuts off, thanks to my router. I could buy one of those adapters, and that may remedy the problem. I hope the same doesn't happen with the WiFi on Wii. Anyway, I'd like to play online with some of you. It'd be a lot of fun. I would rather play with people I'm familiar with, as opposed to anonymous people.
