View Full Version : Recurring gifts
Xmas is coming up, so I was thinking about presents.
Every year my grandpa on my mom's side gets me one of four things: a flashlight, a radio, a toolbox, a watch.
I've gotten so many variations on that theme of 4 objects. One year it'll be a swatch type thing with extra buttons. One year it'll be a flashlight with a crank. Every year I'll think to myself "this is both practical and useless. great."
I'm not building a coffeetable or going spelunking. I never wear watches and use my cellphone to keep time. I don't listen to the radio because I hate the damn thing (xm is alright).

We seem to get a new blender and toaster oven each year. Can't forget the knitted ducky sweater form Grammy. Lol.
serious though, a flashlight would really be helpful. at night, when i go down the stairs, it's dark, but there's no lightswitch, so i'm always afraid i'm gonnna step on a cat. they're too dumb to get out of the way. it hasn' happened yet but i know it will.
i guess i could just buy one, but fuck that flashlights are boring

i have two flashlights in my purse, one in my car and about 100 at home. my daughter has a thing for flashlights.
for 6 years (while i was married) my in-laws always gave me pajamas. every fuckin year always the pj's. why? oh wait i know it was cause they never wanted to take the time to get to know me enough to know what i did like and didnt like. so they wasted their money on shit i didnt need, like or ever use. idiots!

When my parents still sent Christmas presents they were always predictable; calendar (so we could still keep track of Finnish holidays), fruitcake that mum had made (that none of us liked), 1 kg of coffee, some kinda clothing (either warm or horrendous) or sheets and some cheap Christmas decoration. When I was studying my friends at the dorm were there when I got the package and I wanted to make a bet with them what it would include. I would'a won...
