"Screamadelica" is the only one I have, but it's lauded as the best album.

They had a good retro-60s sound in their early years as I heard on Nuggets III.

The next question I pose is: after "Screamadelica," what next?

Screamadelica is the best thing they did by a country mile but xtrmntr and vanishin point are excellent. Also Echo Dek is good - its the dub version of vanishin point. Give out but dont give up has a few highlights and I dont like the new one much

Oh yeah the Screams... I've got quite a few stories...

I already liked their first ones, Sonic Flower Groove and Primal Scream, when they were released, as Bobby had been in JAMC and I was totally into that poppy psychedelic stuff in the 80's. Then I got Screamadelica cd with some mag subscription and the guys in 69 Eyes were complaining that now you gotta get yourself a cd-player (they'd been complaining about it before as I refused to get one, they were staying at my place every now and then cause I booked their first foreign gigs...). I said I had it in vinyl as well so we could listen to that one. Then the next time they came over I had a cd-player and Timo-Timo went crazy: Finally!!! and put Screamadelica on! :D

Then when Rocks came (Give Out But Don't Give Up is propably my top favourite PS record) I had the 12" and one of my best friends was over from Finland with her oldest daughter (about 6 at the time) (my friend's brother plays in 69 Eyes) and we used to dance to that like mad in the living room. They slept in my bedroom while I slept on the couch, but they didn't dare to come out of the bedroom in the morning in case they'd wake me up until I put Rocks on and started blasting it! and we danced! Great times! And since then every time my friend's daughter heard Rocks on the radio she yelled: Hey! They're playing *insert my name here*'s song! :D

Another Primal Scream story:
Me and another of my best friends were at Hultsfred festival, backstage hanging out with Oasis (long story, it was their first ever time abroad) and while eating their food Liam came back. He'd just been to the Scream's coach and said they were all totally out of their heads, each on a trip of their own and he was totally like Man!

Oh yeah and I totally dig the latest, Riot City Blues. Played it non-stop in my mp3-player last summer, it was supposed to be the soundtrack to our roadtrip that got cancelled because of my fever (and I still have the 500,- SEK ticket to see Ed Harcourt, NY Dolls and Patti Smith....).

totally

i know what you mean. i love the acid house influence and it'll always sound fresh, but the drum machine sounds weak.

Screamadelica is good but I think it sounds a bit dated now. I love 'I'm losing more than I'll ever have' off Primal Scream

screamadelica is hardly their best album. that should go without saying.
