No surprises.
What about the timing? Americans waking up on a Sunday to this headline? 2 days before the elections. The Iraqi's wanted to delay the sentencing until AFTER the U.S elections. Wonder who got them to change thier minds about that?

The sad thing is that many more people will die, many have already died. More than are on Saddam's plate to be sure.
Minutes after the ruling Sunni's were chanting "We will avenge you Saddam".
The entire world has gone crazy and there doesn't seem to be an end in site.
Do you suppose the hanging of Saddam will be televised?
I long for peace.

Are you saying that if the Iraqi court hadn't been somehow "rigged" by the American government, Saddam would be a free man???

^I think he's commenting more on the timing, that it was "rigged" to help low poll numbers and the people pissed off with the state of Iraq might be swayed by hearing "Saddam's gonna die!" Most people know that Saddam wouldn't have been free regardless of who handed out the punishment.

At least he was afforded a trial in accorance with the Iraqi Tribunal, he was actually held accountable for his crimes. That is more than can be said about those who helped him to maintain his power (http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB82/).

So was the sentencing really "timed" for the elections? Is that really enough for the GOP to maintain their hold in Congress?
It was the Iraqi people who decided Saddam's fate. Bush hasn't personally executed him.

I don't know enough about the timing of this, I'm sure the sentence is and will be exploited by the GOP in the next 24+ hours. That is a pathetic scenario IMO but many people in the US lap that stuff up.
There is no IQ check at the ballot box.

I'm pretty cynical, but I'm not quite cynical enough to believe that the timing is orchestrated. The dolts who would think "woohoo! he's gonna hang!" aren't exactly sitting around thinking "hmm, should I go vote on Tuesday? And if so, who shall I vote for?"

Where is Bin laden? This whole "trot out a different boogeyman" every election is a tired tactic, fear and distraction seem to always pop up.
Where's Bin Laden
Where's Bin Laden
He's probably runnin'
Probably hidin'
Some say he's livin' at the Khyber Pass
Others say he's at the Bush's ranch
I can hardly wait for this to be over.

True. But the Republicans are scraping at the bottom of the barrel for votes, and if it's true that the Iraqis wanted to wait until after the elections to have the sentencing, what's the reason for it coming out now? That's why I'm suspicious.

we already heard bush say he wasn't concerned about OBL....eh, so waht if he was the mastermind behind the largest terrorist attack against the U.S., he's needed to scare the sheeple into voting rethuglican

Saddam was convicted today and sentenced to hang for crimes against humanity in the 1982 killings of 148 people in a Shiite town.
This whole timing thing doesn't seem to eclipse the whole "having your cake and eating it too (http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB82/)" thing.
At least he was afforded a trial in accorance with the Iraqi Tribunal, he was actually held accountable for his crimes. That is more than can be said about those who helped him to maintain his power (http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB82/).Accessories to murder.
If you knowingly sell a gun to a known murderer, aren't you committing a crime?
Or do those rules not apply to everybody?

Well, even if it wasn't rigged, you better believe the Pres is trying to make it work for him.
Speaking in the shadow of Air Force One on a Texas tarmac and at later campaign events, Bush called the verdict a "landmark event" in Iraq's transition to democracy, and aides hoped it would be seen as vindication of his decision to go to war.

Lots of land mark events that continue not to really change anything. Three years of landmark events.
And I agree. Our country and the party is power is happy that a person/puppet that the same country and party in power supported during the 80s with WMD gladly is now going to hang. What is the lesson here again that we continue not to learn? Lets add Saddam to the list
Saddam
Shah
Noriega
United Fruit Company

That's why I'm suspicious.
You're suspicious because of your stance. I think Peachy hit it head on. People who vote already know what they are voting for a bit more than two days before the elections. Now if this verdict came out a few weeks back it would have made more of a difference as far as swaying votes.

there are a lot of voters who don't know what they are going to mark until they are faced with the ballot. Watch the TV news or listen to NPR. They interview those people all the time.

Saddam Hussein will get out of Iraq the same way 2,832 Americans have, and thousands more.
He'll get out faster than we will.

All i can say is" what a fucking show"
I told it in bf already , bush and company deserve to be hang too. They are committing crime against humanity for a while and it is more fatality then saddam but of course they will be free of charges because THEY are the ones making the rules, fuckers. This circus is at a stage were you cannot really comprehend the motivations and the aims of this current administration. CHAOS it is!
The timing is really too close to the election to not be orchestrated or to be a tactic to gain more vote from the naif/moron people.
