PS - I saw this today and thought it was awesome.

Clinton: "Republicans are saying: You have to vote for us because our opponents are no good. And because they'll tax you into the poor house. And on the way to to the poor house there'll be a terrorist on every street corner. And when you try to run away from the terrorist you'll trip over an illegal immigrant."

Straight ticket voters are sheep.

99% of the time, i would agree with you.

yet, tonight after work...i am voting straight ticket democrat...regardless of the candidate or thier stance.

i feel as though, in such partisan times....with partisan issues dominating our lives....the thought of the GOP continuing our nation down his path is terrifying.

my stance is to stop that at ANY cost....pull out all the stops to save this country.

even it means bringing an idiot $$ wasting liberal into office....i'll take that over one who halts stem cell research and abortion because an antiquated book told him so...
or continues our generation's Vietnam in the Gulf....

it's time for a political enima...

Unless they've come to the conclusion that they like both candidates better than the opposition.

Doing calling, I did get a lot of people who said they're voting solely Democrat just because they want control of the House/Senate. Which to me makes sense in this election...if there's a Democrat running in your state you only partially agree with, you have to look at the overall picture of "If this guy gets in, will he tip the balance of power to the Democrats and therefore have a much stronger impact because the Democrats will then have overall control?" There's a lot of stuff to factor in for this election.

exactly...this election is all about tipping the balance.
things need to be balanced out.

this is a "big picture", partisan election....people need to frame it that way when they hit the booth.

the GOP has had almost complete control of the branches of gov't for nearly 6 years now....and look at where we are:

a new vietnam- an unwinnable war built on lies and rumors, that had the foresight of a 5 year old throwing a rock at a hornets nest.
a state in complete ruin with thousands of lives destroyed and lost thanks to an inept government's pre and post hurricane plan.
stem cell research being halted thanks to someone kowtowing to the evangelical right...and a belief in an old book written thousands of years ago.
repeated attacks on a woman's right to there own bodies.
repeated attacks on science in general (on religious grounds)...and the repeated attempts to combine church and state.
borders and security measures that are still, 5 years after 9/11, not secure.
an economy mired in recessions.
an arrogant, near-imperialist doctrine of thought that has America-hating at an all-time high around the world.
a vice-president who shoots someone in the face while hunting (and possibley drunk) with no thourough investigation.
a president who literally cannot speak properly and thinks he is still living in the frat house.

i am tired of being embarrassed for my country.

getting all amped up and excited to vote democrat is like getting excited to take a vacation day to visit the dentist.

They will be marginally better. Most of my ballot will include write ins.

I'm excited! But that's also cuz I'm spending the night drinking beers with my best friends and watching CNN! And then tomorrow night it's happy hour and the night after my parents come back into town and bring me my baby kitty home!

So I guess I'm excited overall for this whole week. Everything adding up. Tonight starts it, though. (y)

I'm not. I said I was excited about voting Democrat and then hangin with my friends.

MSNBC is now predicting a Democratic takeover, but as we all remember from 2000, what is predicted early and what the actual results are can be quite different.

Baaa. I guess it depends on who you are and where you live.

I think there's a huge difference between the values of the two parties. But then I participated in the process early on and had input into who ended up on the ballot, so I feel good about candidates who I otherwise wouldn't know or care about. We've also learned, and are learning again today, that it's tremendously important who your state secretary of state is. Or county commissioner. Most voters don't have the time or ability to investigate every candidate on the ballot. What do you really know about your sheriff? Your soils commissioner?

There are worse things you could do than follow the recommendation of a large committee of your fellow citizens who have similar values and who vetted the candidates and recommended one. I lean heavily in favor of candidates who got my party's endorsement.

I voted for 1 or 2 republicans this year. (incumbent judges -- there are some real nuts who run against incumbent judges in my county and incumbents were usually vetted by a panel of attorneys at some point).

God, I'm glad I don't live in Minnesota and have to deal with the angst surrounding my decision on THAT one... ;) :p

You need to get your shit together before you vote in Minnesota!

Or you can leave part of the ballot blank like I used to tell my mom.

Is the "shit together" part where you vote for the soils commissioner?

Once again it comes down to voting for one choice. I think today's vote will be a true test of the Republican's dominance of the political scene, I tend to agree with Q because the other choice is to vote my conscious and let the chips fall where they may. That is a gamble I'm not willing to take.

Who will be the next strong politician to come out from behind political party lines? Nader (http://www.nader.org/) had his following but in the end he was so anti-establishment the joke was on him. Working within the system has some merits, even if it is just to show you know how to work within the system and can come out unscathed.

So today I am a sheep. I do not want to gamble.

My expectations; The same-shit, different pile, dynamic quickly becomes apparent; the polarization of US political thought continues apace; and the moderate center becomes a virtual no-man's-land.

I voted Democrat except for Gov., where I voted for (I think) the Libertarian candidate. I say "I think" because he was registered as an Independent. This isn't because I really support the Libs as opposed to the Greens, who were also on the ballot, I just knew I hated Strickland AND Blackwell and I knew the race was basically Strickland's.

I would have voted 3rd party more but, alas, I was not afforded the oppurtunity...

Well, I also said in that thread: "let's get drunk in celebration of winning! And if we lose, let's drink to drown our sorrows!"

I did know we were going to pick up seats which is always a victory, thus the need to celebrate. Not 100% confident about an actual takeover, but new seats coming to us is always something to be excited over. Especially when it's Bob Casey taking over the seat from Rick Santorum! YEAH, EAT SHIT SANTORUM!

Either way, victory party all week now. We took the House. :)
