i'm almost ashamed to admit i've been reading a bunch of my son's books. a series of unfortunate events is the name of the series, and i'll be on book 6 when he's finished with it for his schoolwork. i can read them in an hour to an hour and a half, so it doesn't cut into work.

Linda Fairstein - Entombed (copycat murders of Poe story murders, nice setup, boring main character)
Keep on the Borderlands - D&D novel, coincidentaly my first ever D&D adventure, geeky, I know.
Stroustrup - TheC++ Programming Language (I'm gettin rusty)
Edward E. Smith - Triplanetary

'work' reading - just refreshing my knowledge with Shaum's UML guide. which is gripping.

Otherwise, I am rereading The Little Friend by Donna Tartt. I read it a few years ago and was quite disappointed but I am giving it another go to see if I like it more second time around.

How to Form a Non Profit Corporation by Anthony Mancuso. My sister and I are forming an educational foundation. Since we can't find a scholarship fund to help us with our nephew's needs, we've decided to start one. We've set ourselves a goal of raising $500K within five years of incorporation, which we are aiming for April. It's ambitious but we figure we have nothing to lose and between us we bring a pretty good skill set to the table.

hey peachy! not too shabby, haha. good luck. you can have my useless wireless router to set you off if you want?

empee, last year i attended this centre for screen studies thing i was involved in at uni and the theme for discussion was 'screen adaptations'. this screenwriter (really don't want to write his name incase he googles it and this comes up) was talking about him adapting quite ugly one morning. he was, erm, extremely animated. we watched the tv show too. i don't know if it ever made it to broadcast but it was definitely filmed (erm, being the thing we watched) and james nesbitt was in it. the writer was moaning about having to make the lesbian in the book.. not a lesbian. or something. i dunno. i haven't read it!

/end everything i know about christopher brookmyre.

Yeah it was on ITV last year. Pretty good, but as is usually the case, not quite as good as the book. James Nesbitt was really good as Jack Parlabane, but for some reason was Irish not Scottish (that or his Scottish accent was really bad)

I'm in the middle of all of these:

Nick Hornby - About a boy
Stephen Fry - An Ode Less Travelled
William Sutcliffe - New Boy
Douglas Adams - The Hitchhiker's guide
Jonathan S. Foer - Everything Is Illuminated

And that last one is strange but f*cking good.

been reading a bunch of stuff for uni these days. you can tell its all been written by lawyers because they take about 50 words to explain something that would've otherwise taken maybe 3 words. Back in the day when they used to be paid per word.

East of Eden-John Steinbeck

is it as good as the movie?

Drederick Tatum
11-08-2006, 09:42 PM
it's alot longer. the film is only based on about a third of the book.

this book is big and goes all over the place, but Steinbeck is fantastic.
