Ever before I saw this thread http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=73507

I was scared about the Beastie shows im going to coming up. I rang I got my ticket all that. Im not the tallest of people an its been on my mind ever since the announcment of the Australian concerts. I dont wanna go to my fav bands show an look at the back of a head. I dont wanna sound stupid but Beastie's are my life an I think I deserve to "see" the concert. Is there gonna be seats at this venue ? When I saw Beastie's in Melbourne Feb2nd 2005 there were seats an like a verandah, an I could just walk down from the seat an jump to Beastie's an see them from about 20 metres away it was GREAT !
Basically what im saying is that I love the Beastie's an I wanna see a show an be happy with it, coming home from a Beastie show being sad would be a nightmare for me. Minton you know what the place Beastie's are playing at in Melbourne is gonna be like ? Im going to Sydney show too, but I want Melbourne to be a BLAST. Sorry For Sooking To Yall

Maybe Minton can hook you up with "vip" arrangements. Probably not, but that would be cool.

you'll find the 'element' at every show.....you could go see Yanni and find some hardcore assholes.....i was front row at a beasties show in philly with my friend and he got crushed....he kept saying 'he couldn't breathe'.....eventually he found a comfortable position....

i went to TFC2 in ny and saw something i never saw before in my life......when the beasties hit the stage, the whole mass of people rushed the stage.....it was like being in a tsunami......i lost my friends....had to protect my camera....shit was nuts!

i'm a big dude so i held my own......but it does get frantic.....now when i go i just hang in the back with an adult beverage and bob my head....i've been there/done that.....let the younger kids get hectic!

i don't want to scare you.....but if you don't think you can handle being upfront then hang in the back.....you'll still see and hear the show.....and you'll be safe.....

Always prepare for some crushing and pushing. But I always try to get in front of the action against the rail.

The bird's eye view of the Beasties performing is excellent. And you have a rail to brace yourself against.

Good luck.

Yea, same deal with me at the Lolapoolza show in 94. I was upfront and all the young punks formed mosh pits right against the stage and I kept getting thrown in. it sucked big time.

Laurie you have to go up front! This is your first beastie show. If you don't get up as far as you can you will regret it, i promise you that.

Just in case...dont get up front in the middle...get up front and to the side..(in front of speakers) so if they mosh during the latter part of the show...you'll still be fine.

This isnt my first show. Its my second. So to make it up the front, I just slowly make my way there ? Front row would be awsome.

Just get there VERY early. You have to be patient and get there a couple hours before the gates open. (y)

If you try and get to the front after the show has started you will get your arse kicked. You gotta be there early to reserve your place and try to make contact with the people around you so they'll keep you safe if the going gets rough.

Bird's eye view?

I think you mean worm's eye view - unless of course you managed to hang from the gantry above the stage, in which case, fair play to you.

The gantry would've been more impressive.

I gotta say Laurie, we're dealing with a summer breaks and DJ crowd. There won't be an awful lot of surging beyond individual serotonin levels of many of the patrons. Without the 'rock' element I'd predict it's going to be a little more chill. Plus, J5 are probably on beforehand, so everybody will have a feel for the tone.

That said, the Beasties do elicit a fairly unique reaction every time they take the stage. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You'll be fine up the front. I'm going to block all and sundry when I go up the front, after the sausage sizzle.

Once you go rail, you never go back. I can't imagine seeing a show from anywhere but the front.

I always get some anxiety before a show. The first time I saw them, I actualy made myself feel like shit before the show. I was worried about getting there (1h 15m drive). I kept checking to make sure I didn't lose my tickets. There was traffic.

By the time I got there, I was feeling a little nauseus and had a big headache. It's not as bad now, but I'm always nervous until I get in and am actually leaning on the rail.

Laurie, the best thing you can do is partner with people to ensure your safety. You can't go to a festival alone.

In my opinion, the best place to be is against the rail because you have one side free of people and air coming to you. You can brace yourself against the rail with your knees and hands. And, if worst comes to worst, you can ditch if you have to.

I noticed on my Melbourne ticket that it says "18+." How old are you? Can you get in to the concert legally? I'll say I'm your mom for 50 bucks...or for a beer and sausage. :p

Oh -- you don't work your way up to the best spot, like B-grrrlie said. You EARN it by queueing early. I hate the fohkers who come just before show starts and push their way to the front.

If you want, you're welcomed to join my posse in Melbourne. The more, the merrier.

What's with your prolific use of the word "queue?" I never see or hear anyone use that word in conversation. Besides you that is.

Actually, I meant a bird from the rail. Poor choice of words to describe the view. But, like Pshabi said, once you go rail you never go back. (y)

I literally had to push against the rail to keep myself off of it with force at the Vegas show. Then I look at Paulb, right next to me, and he's str8 chillin'.

I'm like, "are you getting slammed into the rail?" and he's like, "Nope."

Then I blinked my eyes and realized I wasn't at the bboys show, I was in jail.

The venue in Melbourne is an ampitheater type of thing. There's the main stage with something like 2000 seats on a slope in front of it. Then behind that, there's a grass area where more people can sit/stand. Somethin' like that.

Brits queue so I assume that Australians do too, but I'm not sure. I use that word all the time myself, but more because of the time I spent working with computers in telemarketing.

Just so you know for next time, you usually have to get in line much earlier in order to get on the rail. Jennygirl and Miramanee try to help message boarders so they wanted to let you butt in line at the front with us. I told the nice family behind us that you were underage and a member of the same fan club as the three of us and that we were worried about your safety if you had to go to the back of the line by yourself. The mom and dad of that family were sympathetic and said you could join us. (It shows why it's a good idea to make friends with the people near you in line. :) )

LH: I'm not sure what I would do if I were going to a festival today. I love being up front, but I find that I need to go to the bathroom more than once every 8 hours. And at a summer concert I worry about dehydration. So I might want to wander around in back and not worry about it. But if you want to be down front and you're getting there early enough you should give it a try. BTW, it's hard to wimp out when you're standing next to Miramanee. She's a rock. :p
