I know we've talked about this before, why Bush has a problem with public speaking and why he sounds dumb all the time. I found a video that compares Bush speaking 10 years ago, and how he is today. It's quite interesting.

Setting aside the "diagnosis" from some doctor who's never examined him, don't you think that 10 more years of aging, combined with the stress of being President, would account for some of the difference?

It didn't seem to affect Clinton's speaking abilities. He's still as articulate as he ever was.

It's just so drastic with Bush. Here he goes from a smooth talker to someone who stumbles over his words and sounds like a doofus. I'm sure that stress has something to do with it, but do you honestly think that nothing else is affecting him mentally? And even if you do believe it's just stress, well, Presidents are supposed to be able to handle the highest stress possible. I mean, if stress is affecting his speech this badly, I don't even want to think how it affects his decision-making process. He's obviously ill-equipped to have a role as high as President if he can't deal with stress and aging.

And yet he still beat Kerry in '04.

Hmmm....

Refer to the voting fraud in the other thread. :D

And anyways, don't get away from the problem at hand. The man needs some sort of evaluation of his competency. Fact.

If that's the case then FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, Reagan, Nixon, etc. all should've been drooling idiots who couldn't pronounce "underestimate" (or is it "misunderestimate"? ;) ) after all those "stressful" years being the President of the United States.

That doesn't wash.

I think it is quite simple: the guy is no more able to lie...his faculty to tell bullshit are exhausted. He is all mixed up in his falses claims.

Plus , he might also have a degenerative brain disease!

There were articles about this in magazines several years ago. Everyone who knew him before he was in politics was surprised at how dumb he sounds. I think he started doing it on purpose and it finally became natural. I think that he also pretends to enjoy car racing and bologna.

I don't think he's dumb, I think he's manipulative.

I started using folksy sayings and different vocal inflections in my job and now I can't get rid of them.

Documad, I have the same problem. I say 'mate' at least 100 times a day now. I hate it.

I think he is reading something from the first example. His head doesn't move much and he is speaking quickly like he sees the words, not thinking them.

True, but even if he is reading in the first clip and you compare it to a recent video of him reading, it's still different. Even with speeches now, he has a lot of trouble, goes slow, stumbles on words. He's a very fast talker in the first video, I was quite impressed and surprised that he was at one time that eloquent.

Speaking of speeches! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmXEb_YpKXU)

Good catch. Like a teleprompter maybe? And later examples, where he speaks extemporaneuously, are more like the reality of how we all speak when not reading.

Echewta, you the man!
