If you get a chance to hear her speak live, do it.
I laughed so hard my throat is sore.
And it only cost $12. (y)

I must say, her brother did not speak well of her... (Or was that another sister?)

I would say he definetly wasn't talking about Amy...they had a fair amount of siblings so it's someone else probably. They work together often.

I bet you didn't expect me to reply to this thread at all eh Documad?

I've never seen her speak live or anything, what was it for? Anything to do with her book? Though I'm guessing promotion for that is overish..

she just came out with a cookbook and it's fab. I think it's called entertaining under the influence? I love all the Sedaris kids!

David Sedaris is my favorite, favorite, favorite. I saw him speak a few years ago, and didn't think to bring a book for him to sign. I waited in line for 45 minutes thinking I'd just buy one of the ones for sale, but by the time I got to the front of the line they were all gone. I seriously considered asking him to sign my breast, but thought he might not appreciate the irony, so I chickend out and left (to the great dismay of the friend who had been waiting with me all that time.)

She is one funny woman, I love how she introduced herself as the new freshman girl at Senior High School in Strangers with Candy,

Hello, I'm Jerri Blank and - and I'm an alcoholic. I'm also addicted to amphetamines as well as main line narcotics. Some people say I have a sex addiction, but I think all those years of prostitution was just a means to feed my ravenous hunger for heroin. It's kinda like the chicken or the nugget. The point is, I'm addicted to gambling. Thank you.

I'd love to see her live. I also was planning to see Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter live for $15 downtown, but it was the day after I got back from Canada and I was still kinda jetlagged.

Our local public radio station does live events where authors come and sit in a chair on stage at a small theater, where they are interviewed by a radio host. (There's also a warm up band.)

Amy was dead gorgeous and answered the host's questions in a fairly entertaining way. But it got really good when she started showing the audience how to do her "crafts," which are very simplistic. Then the audience got to ask questions and that was the best part because she's very naturally funny and fast on her feet. She's even smarter than I thought. Her asides kill me. (She had one about Totie Fields which is funny because I tried to make a Totie Fields avatar a couple of weeks ago.)

If you follow Amy, I should report that her imaginary boyfriend Ricky was brutally stabbed to death and she lives with his ghost. She is also selling BBQ aprons for Rooster.

(I saw David Sedaris at a reading a few weeks ago. I love him, but he's not good on his feet, so the Q&A at the end just kind of piddled out. I was disappointed to learn that he's not working on a new book.)
